The Drowning Boy
Henry was trapped. Fear vibrated through every inch of his body, he was suffocating. He gasped for air, but his precious vapors were running out. He could feel his life hanging by a thread. The barrel which contained Henry’s terrified body seemed to become smaller, and smaller from the pressure as it sank deeper into the ocean. His life flashed in front of his eyes as he took his last gasp of air. He wished that he could’ve said goodbye to his family, and do the things that he had dreamed of doing his whole life. Henry then took one more hit to the lid of the barrel, to try and escape. His vision started to go fuzzy, and his eyes filled with nothingness. The cold iron barrel sunk to the bottom of the bay, and left Henry’s lonely body inside.
A boy by the name of Henry Martin felt the wind blowing through his coffee colored hair as he sprinted down the alley, and towards the boating dock. Tiny tear drops started to fall on to his head, and dark clouds came overhead. Henry’s friend, Lucy, ran after him and her long blond hair flowed behind her. Henry rushed over to the boat dock, and the stench of fish hugged his nose. His eyes quickly searched for a spot to hide. Henry did not want to lose at playing hide and go seek again. Lucy would hold it over his him till they got grey hairs on their head.
Henry and Lucy had been friends since the second grade, and now they are dealing with the average lives of being teenagers. Lucy paints pictures of Henry all the time and Henry loves to write stories about Lucy. They studied together, ate together, went to football games together, and were in the same clubs at school. They listen to each other, help each other and are always there for one another; they also don’t mind a little friendly competition.
The rain began to make sound as it hit the dock, and sea. Running on to the aging dock, Henry saw something shining like a silver star off in the distance towards the edge of the dock. Following his feet, he found himself at the edge of the dock looking at his own reflection. He saw his blue eyes staring back at him in the mirror like iron barrel. Perfect, Henry thought to himself. He put his hands on to the lid of the barrel and began to pull.
“Henry, I know you are around here somewhere!” Lucy shouted from a distance.
Henry’s wet palms slipped away from the lid of the barrel, and he went flying through the angry air. Quickly jumping up, Henry spotted a large metal crow bar sitting on top of a wooden box. Jamming the crow bar in between the lid and body of the shining barrel, an opening made its presence and Henry quickly hopped inside and sealed himself inside with the lid of the barrel. Abruptly an ear aching siren vibrated through Henry’s ears.
“Henry! Come out of hiding! A tsunami is coming!” Lucy screamed at the top of her lungs.
“Lucy!” Henry shouted as he tried to get the stubborn iron lid off the barrel. “I’m trapped in an iron barrel at the edge of the dock!”
Lucy ran to the shining grey barrel at the edge of the boating dock, and grabbed the crow bar. She used all her strength in attempting to get the lid off of the barrel, but soon her arms became noodles, and the crow bar slipped from her hands and into the ocean. Lucy put her eye next to the hole on the side of the barrel, and saw Henry looking at her in fear.
“Help us!” Lucy shouted. “Somebody please help us!” She soon realized that everything around her was now a ghost town.
The ocean became too powerful for Lucy to stand, and she quickly grabbed some rope, and secured herself to the iron barrel, which contained her best friend.
“Lucy, what are you doing? You need to go!” Henry screamed.
“I’m not leaving you,” Lucy replied.
“Please Lucy!” Henry begged.
“I will not leave you here to die Henry! I love you,” said Lucy, and a sudden pause came between them.
“I love you Lucy,” Henry replied.
Lucy took her last breath, than was completely under water. The ocean began to fill the barrel, seeping through the small hole on the side. Henry then remembered a pocket knife that he had in his front pocket of his shorts. Desperately opening the knife he squeezed his hand through the large iron weight, and began to cut through the rope. The rope broke into two, and Lucy was set free. She turned around and saw Henry’s hand, and grabbed hold of it. Not wanting to let go Henry slipped his hand back through the hole, and let Lucy swim back up to shore.
