The staircase
“Ugh! You win again” Kara said. “I’m sorry, I just play this game all the time with my brothers” said Haylee. “Can we just play another game?” Haylee asked. “No! I’m determined to win!’” Kara replied. Kara was never good at games, especially when it came to Haylee; she owned every game you could imagine no matter the difficulty.
At that point, the wind blew into Haylee’s window, “maybe we should go downstairs, I might feel safer if a storm comes in.” Kara said with a tremble in her voice. Both girls agreed that was a safe idea and hurried down the stairs.
They made it down just in time before the lights began to flicker and then the rain came pouring down.
The girls managed to get some sleep, the storm hadn’t stopped but it slowed down. Well that was over. The siren pierced their ears as they made the one mistake that could have kept them safe. The wind blew so hard it knocked them out cold.
Five minutes passed when they woke and ran for the door. “What happened” Haylee asked. “Whatever it was, I don’t think we’re at the same house.” Kara said. This was no ordinary house; the only thing visible was an old wooden staircase leading to a light. “Let’s get out of here” Kara said. It was too late. They were trapped.
