Standing in front of a door. The unknown behind it taking over his mind. “What if it’s a surprise and I'm embarrassed?” he thought. “I hate being embarrassed! Or what if it’s a trap, and they sell me to the underground human trafficking world? Oh god!” As he thought of this, he began to back up from the door, but then he stopped himself a couple of steps back. “What if there’s a fire in there, and I just leave. The guilt would kill me. I can't do that. I was there and I left; everyone died inside, and I could have stopped it.” He charged towards the door, but as soon as he touched the doorknob, he froze. The fear and uncertainty of what was behind that block of wood was too much for him, and he fell to the ground paralyzed. “I can't just stay here. What if someone comes out and sees me. They’d think I was crazy! They would send me to the loony bin, and I’d be in a padded room with a straight jacket for the rest of my life. Get up!” As soon as he got up, he heard a sound come from inside the house. “What was that? Was it a creak or a groan? Who knows? Maybe the whole foundation of this house has been eaten by termites and as soon as I step foot inside all three floors will come crashing down on top of my head.” He inspected around the corner of the front porch and under it but couldn’t find any traces of termites. “Okay, everything’s fine. It’s probably not even that old of a house. It’s probably just a nice quiet family with two kids and a dog. Yeah, I like dogs… DOGS? There’s so many stories of dogs with rabies biting people! Isn’t that how the zombie invasion started?” His imagination ran wild. “I don’t want to be the first zombie. How would that make me look? I’d be that one guy that killed everyone, and I’d be embarrassed? I Hate being embarrassed!” Just as he thought this the door flung open and a hunched over old lady stepped into the doorway. “Yes? Hello? How can I help you?” she said almost yelling. It was of no use though. He was halfway down the block sprinting away by then.
