Geoffrey Bridge
It was a cool breezy evening in California and my train was just about to pull in. I was heading to Utah and I had just bought my ticket, Utah is where my mother lived and I was going to visit her. I never even thought that something would stop me from seeing her.
When my train arrived I gave my ticket to the ticket puncher. “Goin to see your mom again Tim” said the ticket puncher with the smell of alcohol coming from his breath. I told him “yea and I cant Wait she said she had something for me”. After my conversation with the ticket he told me to have a safe trip and I got on the train. Once I was on I found my room at the back of the train, in this room I found my soft creaky twin sized bed and my closet and started unpacking for the two day trip. When I finished setting up i found the food cart and eat a nice meal and took back to my room what i did not eat and went to bed.
When I awoke the train was about to cross the bridge through the canyon as usual and me being afraid of heights stayed in my cart and watched tv. That is when it happened, the worst thing I could ever imagine, I was watching tv and then the power in my cart went out so I got up to ask what was going on I opened the door to get to the next cart but the train was 10 feet from mine, my cart had came unhooked. I began to panic i screamed for help and one man saw me and yelled at the conductor to stop but he could not hear him then a dog from my cart jumped out and started running he made it to the train and got on it and began to run through the carts to the front of the train and began to bark at the conductor and he realized what had happened and started to slow down.
Once the train had stopped and my cart was back where it belonged i went looking for the dog. I found the dog in my cart sitting down, I started to pet him and say thank you he was a golden retriever and I found his collar and on it it said Geoffrey and on the tag it said my address on it and for a second I was confused until my mom walked up and said “well I see you found your surprise”. I said “It found me and if it had not have than I might have been stuck on that bridge forever” and she laughed and said “well im just glad your home and safe come on lets go get some coffee”. and I said “ that sounds great lets go”. so we went home and got coffy and Geoffrey loved his new home.
