Weekend Away
Weekend Away
“Tag you’re it!” squealed Sophia, my two year old sister as she tagged me on the back.
“I see you, Emma!” I yelled to my seven year old sister, who was anxiously hiding behind a tree. “I’m gonna get you,” I started running towards her and she took off away from me.
“You can’t catch me! Na na na na na!” Emma squealed laughing as she ran.
“Got you!” I said as I started tickling her. She was twisting, squirming, and laughing.
“Stop! Caiden please! Stop!” she pleaded between laughter.
“Mommy!” screamed Sophia as my mom came outside to tell us it was time for dinner. So I stopped and Emma got up as quickly as she could and ran inside.
Before dinner, mom told she had something exciting to say. So I waited anxiously for her to tell us.
“Is everybody ready?” my mom asked with a big smile. “What do y’all think about a family vacation?”
“Yay!” screamed Emma.
“Weely?!” shrieked Sophia.
“Where are we gonna go?” I questioned excitedly.
“We were thinking Branson.” My dad answered. “How’s that sound?”
After dinner we all started to pack. Even Sophia, well she wasn’t doing much but she was excited for the trip.
“I’m weady to go! Said Sophia holding up her sippy cup and blankie. Everyone just laughed.
“Have you seen my Steelers hoodie?” my dad asked my mom.
“Did you look on the chair in the bed room?” mom answered, annoyed.
“Um… No,” my dad said as he walked over to the chair and picked up his hoodie. Mom finished packing the girls bags and I’m almost done with mine.
“I can’t find my charger,” I heard my dad yell from downstairs.
“I already got it!” my mom hollered back. When we were finally ready to go, we all piled into the car. About 15 minutes into the drive everyone was asleep.
We were about an hour away when I woke up. Everyone else was asleep so I listened to music. 20 minutes later Sophia stated crying and wouldn’t stop so we pulled over, changed her diaper, and were back on the road. We stopped at a gas station to find directions to the place we were staying.
“Hi, can you tell me how to get here?” my dad asked the man as he pointed to a map. The man looked freaked out. When we got to the house I found my room and threw my bag on the bed. I then started looking around while mom was making dinner. She said I had about 15 minutes. I walk down a hallway and I found a staircase. I started to walk up when I heard a noise. I kept going up the stairs creaking with every step. I hear another noise when I’m almost at the top.
“BOO!” screamed Emma from behind a wall.
“Oh my gosh, Emma!” I yelled at her. She was rolling on the floor laughing.
“What was that?” Emma said.
“I don’t know,” I said, then I took off running back down the stairs with Emma on my heels.
At dinner mom told us about one of our neighbors who brought a tray with fried liver to our house.
“I brought this for your arrival,” my mom said as she mimicked the neighbor.
That night while I was in bed I looked outside and saw a light on across the street. I looked closer and saw a woman staring at our house.
The next day at the same time as yesterday the neighbor brought another dish. This went on for five more days. She brought a meal at the same time every day. Then at night she would stare at the house. On our last night there she was staring at the house I tried to ignore it by closing my eyes. When I opened them a few minutes later she was gone…
“Ahh!” screamed Emma.
“Emma!” my dad yelled as he ran past my door. I rushed out of bed and started toard the door but it closed.
“Help!” I screamed. “I can’t get out! It’s locked!”
“Honey!” my mom yelled. “Hold on I’ll get you out.”
Sophia suddenly started crying… then just stopped. Mom got the door open her hands were bloody. Blood was running down her face.
“Mom.” I tried to scream but a whisper was all I could manage. “What happened to you?!”
“What are you talking about? I’m fine,” she said with a grin on her face. “Why don’t you come on out here.”
“Mom.” Emma said, as she walked up to her with dad at her side holding Sophia’s limp body. Blood covered all four of them. I screamed at the top of my lungs.
Then I woke up, in the car, surrounded by my family…
“Honey! Sweetie!” my mom said sweetly. “You’re okay. Shh.”
“Caiden calm down,” said my dad.
“Bubby, what’s wong? Sophia asked.
“You’re okay!” I screamed to her giving her a huge hug!
It was a dream… All just a dream!
When we final arrived at the house in Branson I noticed a neighbor carefully eyeing the house…
