Haunted House
Some people swore that house was haunted. But I wasn’t the type of person who believed in “haunted houses” so of course, I wanted to go inside (like a show-off I was) to prove to everyone that the house was NOT haunted. My best friend Erika remained by my side. Erika is one of those girls who will shriek if she breaks a nail or if a bug lands on her sleeve. She has blond flowing hair and blue eyes with gold glittery specks on them. Her smile was so bright that it could make a person visionless. She definitely wasn’t the type of girl who’d take a risk.
Frightened as always, she was trying to persuade me that going into the “haunted house” was the worst idea that I have ever had and that she was scared something horribly wrong would happen.
Ignoring her comment about being scared, (like I always do) I told her, “Erika, if you don’t face your fears sometime, you’re never going to fully live.”
And like always, she looked at me as if I was senseless. “WELL MAYBE I DON’T WANT TO LIVE A FULL LIFE!! I would rather live a decent life then do what we’re about to do. Jenell, come on. Let’s get out of here while we still can.”
“NO!! Erika, we’re going in there whether you like it or not! Come on!! Stop being such a baby!” I then grabbed her by the arm and pulled her onto the porch. “I’m going to open the door and we ARE going in there no matter what. Plus, you can’t be furious with me about making you go into this house. I’m just trying to help you. People will think you’re a big baby if you don’t go in there. Do you really want people to think about you like that?”
“Ugh… FINE!! Let’s get this over with already.”
“Good! Don’t worry so much, we’ll be fine. Trust me.” I tried to tell her that with as much confidence as I could because I didn’t want her to know that I was actually kind of scared myself. “Now, let’s quit arguing about this and get in there before it gets dark.”
Every step we took the floor would creek and there were cobwebs all over the place. It was dark, but light enough to see what was around us (two staircases rose up on two sides) the right wall and the left and between them was a hallway. So we decided to go down the hallway.
As we walked down the hallway, I could feel Erika’s breath on my neck, which was creating goose bumps all over my neck and arms.
At the end of the hall, there were two doors, one on the right of us and the other across from it which was on our left. “I’m going to go into the room on the right. Erika, you go to the room on the left.
As I entered the room I could smell something nauseating. It was almost like a rotten meat smell with a sprinkle of mold. I ignored the smell though and continued looking around the room. There was old furniture covered in sheets placed all around the room. By the looks of it, it was maybe a guest room. But, I’m not quite for sure. As I was observing the room, I felt a light breeze come from the hallway into the room I was in. I heard something fall and maybe even shatter in the room across the hall from me. “Are you okay in there? Erika?”
“JENELL, HELP ME!!”
I walked out of the room that I was in to go check in the room Erika was in to see if she was alright. But, before I reached the door I heard her scream. I sprinted into the room to find that she was know where insight. I stood there, silently. I could hear my heart pounding and I could barely catch my breath. Where was Erika?
Hours later I was walking down the upstairs hallway searching to find her. “Erika, where are you!? I heard a noise behind me so I looked back, but… there was nothing there. When I turned back around, I almost peed myself. Erika was standing in front of me only a few inches away from my face. “OH!!! You scared me! What happened to you?” Erika didn’t say a word. She just looked at me. She looked terrified, almost like she had just seen a ghost. “Why won’t you speak to me? Hello?” That day, even months and years after, she wouldn’t speak to me about that night. And sense then, nothing was ever the same.
