Cut Cover Up
How in the world are we going to explain this one to the parents? We need a story and a believable one. And one that will not make them think that we were up to no good, even though we were. But it cannot be one that would be about something that’s not even possible for us to do. This is not going to be easy with five girls deciding and especially since we are getting asked now…
“Girls, what happened?” asked Jean tiredly.
“Mom, look at this!” Teresa yelled quietly.
Oh boy, moment of truth. We are going to have to tell. Tell the truth. My mom is going to kill me, but I mean it was worth it. Right?
Jean took one look at Kaitlyn’s cut on her foot and calmly said, “Go get some Peroxide and some gauze. Then I’ll pour some of the Peroxide into the cut and then wrap it. Do we have any medicine?”
Teresa comes running in with the Peroxide and the gauze. “I’ll look for the medicine. Is that all we need to do?” she asked her mom in a panic. It was easy to tell Teresa was nervous that her mom was going to ask her how this happened. And we came up with nothing… yet.
“Keep it elevated when I’m done pouring and wrapping it. Teresa, have you found anything yet?” she yelled into the kitchen. “This will sting at first, but it’ll be okay.”
“We only have Neil’s leftover stuff,” Teresa called to her mom.
“Alright, I’ll be in there in a second. I’m going to put some of the Peroxide on your cut. Are you ready?” Jean asked.
“No, I don’t need it,” answered Kaitlyn almost in a daze.
“Just a little bit to get it nice and cleaned out, it will be fine” Jean responded. And without a hesitation poured some over the cut on her foot. Kaitlyn’s face was priceless. Her eyes became squinted and her mouth was open, but no words were coming out. My friends and I could not help but laugh at her reaction. We did feel bad though, I mean our ‘great idea’ was now leading to this.
“No more, I do not want it” Kaitlyn said to Jean.
“I’ll do it a few more times just to be safe” Jean to told Kaitlyn as she continued pouring.
After Jean was done cleaning the cut on her foot and looking for some medicine for Kaitlyn to take she headed off back to bed and told us that we probably should start to get ready for bed, since it was 1:30 in the morning. So we all went down into the basement wide awake as ever from all the excitement that had just happened and laughing nonstop from the way some of us responded to Kaitlyn when she was yelling, “Guys stop! My foot hurts! I broke it!” I think I laughed so hard that I gained a few abs!
“I did not believe you at all! I thought you were just joking around trying to be funny” Teresa said laughing, “It wasn’t until you came into the house and I actually got to see it.”
“Kaitlyn, I’m your true friend,” Paige said. “I mean I did help you into the house when everyone else ran away leaving you.”
“Thank you for helping me. But I really did think I hurt my foot” Kaitlyn said. “When I first looked at it I thought I was going to faint. I cannot handle blood when it comes to my own, its freaks me out, like I’m going to die or something!”
We all started laughing super hard at that. Who thinks that because they are bleeding from a cut that they are going to die? It’s not like her foot was gushing blood!
“Oh my!! You scared me when you took your first glance at it” Teresa said. Typical Teresa showing the mom side of her.
“Guys we need a story that we can tell our parents because I do not think we can tell them ‘we went swimming,’ I do not know how well they would respond to that,” I said.
“Oh yeah, good idea. Anyone have a convincible story to tell the parents?” Teresa asked.
“We could just tell them that we had to go get my sweatshirt from the deck because I left it out there from earlier and I cut my foot on a loose nail,” Kaitlyn said.
“Yeah that would be excellent. Hopefully there really is a loose nail on the deck or this might get awkward with the parents believing the story” Teresa said.
“And let’s keep this on the down low for a while. I don’t want people to know what really happened… at least not yet” Kaitlyn said giggling.
“But this will definitely be a night that one day we will look back on and just laugh about because of the stupid ideas that we came up with,” Ali chimed in.
The word did not get out for a while and we never brought it up unless we were with all the people who were at Teresa’s house that night. And the best part was that all of the parents believed us and the Teresa’s brother fixed the loose nail. So maybe our ‘great idea’ did not end exactly the way we wanted it to, since Kaitlyn had to end up getting stitches and could not participate in two basketball shootouts. But I mean we’re young… YOLO.
