The Game
The Game
Once upon a time in an old medieval land called Layville, everything seemed right and in its place. But soon enough things would start to change for a little girl who lived in the poor village nearby, Cotz. Cotz is a place for widowed and for women with children and no husband would live. There weren’t many things to do besides having the young boys go hunt for food and the young girls sew clothes and blankets, and the single mothers taking care of everything else. Cotz was a really sad place to be in, but Ginger Rollenbach and Sallie Heinberger would always be the ones to cheer everyone up. No matter what the problem was Ginger and Sallie would always have a bright smile on their face. Since there wasn’t anything to do after they would finish their chores, the little six year olds would oddly play an exhilarating game of chess. What started as a pastime became their beloved game that they would always play forever.
“Don’t you just love chess!” sprinted up Ginger
“Our games get better every time!” replied Sallie who also seemed overly excited. Today was a big day for Cotz, as the king of Layville would come by to make a huge donation for the needy.
Before the king would come Ginger and Sallie wanted to play a quick match.
“Checkmate!” Sallie shouted
“How do i always keep forgetting about that move?” questioned Ginger
“Maybe you need more-” Sallie was going to finish her sentence, but had gotten interrupted by a loud trumpet. The king had arrived. The king was an okay person, he was very charming but was also very greedy and selfish, which is why he came here to make a donation so he wouldn’t be seen that way anymore; but he was forced to do this actually. Because most royals had everything they would always seem very greedy which is what prompts Ginger and Sallie, under any circumstances, to never become like that. After an hour long speech, the king gave the donation and was trying very quickly to leave, but a beautiful woman stopped him; and instantly he fell in love. That woman was no other than Ginger’s mother! And not long after Ms. Rollenbach would soon be queen of Layville, which meant that Ginger was going to become a princess!
Now that Ginger was a royal, her mother and her would leave Cotz forever, and although it would be nice to live in a castle, Ginger didn’t want to leave home or Sallie.
“I can’t believe you’re actually leaving me.” Sallie cried.
“Don’t worry I promise I’ll send you over to the castle so we can still play chess.” Ginger replied sadly.
“Don’t forget about where you came from Ginger!” Sallie shouted as Ginger was being rode away. She didn’t want her friend to become a nasty brat while she was away. As soon as Ginger got to the castle, she was immediately put in a fancy pink dress that was way too tight and she very much hated it. but she had no choice. This is where she would be living at for the rest of her life. After finally settling in the castle and her princess “duties”, Ginger was very happy when Sallie came over to play their game. Over the next few weeks however Ginger was starting to become different.
As Ginger would spend a lot of time with the mean royals, she started to act like them; however whenever Sallie would come over Ginger did her best to not show her new bossy attitude. But Sallie could automatically tell that was something wasn’t right with Ginger. After playing a total of twenty-five games, Sallie won twenty-five and ginger lost twenty-five. Ginger was so upset that when Sallie left, she screamed so loud that another dimension could hear.
“How can one person lose twenty-five games in a row?! “ screamed Ginger. Soon Ginger’s new attitude would take over, and this personality didn’t like to lose or not get what she wanted, so she knew the only way she could win a game is if she cheated! And cheat she did. The next day when Sallie came over for match twenty-six, Ginger used a special elixir she stole from a wizard that no matter what Sallie did Ginger would always end up winning,
“Checkmate!” Ginger shouted, “I finally got you!” Ginger had won the game but her boastfulness would get the best of her and when Sallie left, Ginger would keep playing, and cheating.
Over the next few weeks Ginger would keep cheating in her games and she didn’t care, because she would win no matter what. But Sallie knew she had to fix this mess and there was only one way she could do it. On Saturday morning, Sallie came over again to play another match which Ginger happily accepted. Their game was long and rough, but as it would seem that Ginger was going to win, Ginger heard a word she thought she would never hear again.
“Check, Mate.” Sallie said with ease. Sallie had won the game.
“I don’t believe it!” Ginger screamed.
“I won fair and square.” replied Sallie. That’s when Ginger noticed that Sallie had the same elixir as hers.
“No you didn’t you cheated!” Ginger shouted back.
“Just like how you cheated on our game and every other one since then!” Sallie said sarcastically. Just as sallie said that, Ginger knew that Sallie knew all along, and immediately apologized. Sallie accepted her apology as long as she apologized to her other players. Ginger complied and apologized to everyone especially Sallie, Because she had broken her promise. Ginger knew her lesson and would not cheat anymore, and when the played again Ginger won, for real.
