You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you. ~Ray Bradbury (1920-2012)

Veronica and Dawn awake in a small, dim lit room. Their eyes catch and panic spreads across their faces. They jump as they hear screaming and footsteps outside the door to their room. Looking out the small window into the hallway, there are two smaller children being chased by a man. The children were covered in blood. Dawn is now pretty much alone in this living nightmare. Ronni, Veronica, is passed out in the chair next to her. The screams are silenced and the shadowy man back tracks past their door door again. He has a large bag flung over his body with every step he takes. Dawn knows what's in the bag. The children she just saw running past the door are now dead. Dawn struggles in the chair and tries to free herself, but it's no use. The metal straps that hold her wrists and ankles to the chair have won. They are too strong for her to get even the least bit free. Out of breath with fear growing inside her, Dawn stops and then she begins to weep. Ronni is still passed out in the chair next to her, and in between her sobs Dawn prays to God that this is just a nightmare that she can't awake from and that Ronni wakes up soon. But deep down in the pit of her stomach she knows that her prayers won't be answered because this is a twisted, hellish reality that has now taken her and Ronni into it's world. Ronni finally comes to and realizes that it's all real. Dawn's face is red and splotchy from crying so much. Her eyes, completely blood shot. She opens her mouth, but no words come out. Ronni looks at her ten year old sister and starts to cry herself. She whispers, "I'm so sorry Dawn." Dawn looks at her sister's face and replies barely loud enough to be heard, "For what? It's not your fault we're here. I mean as long as we get out, it doesn't matter. As long as we." Ronni cuts her off. "As long as we manage to stay alive for the next, I don't know! God knows how long we could be here!" "I was talking Ronni. As I was saying, as long as we get out alive, together, I don't care. We just need to think and you need to calm down. Other wise, if you pass out again God only knows how long it's going to be before what happened." She pauses and takes a deep breath, then continues,"Before what happened to those kids, happens to us." "What kids? What happened?" Ronni's eyes seem like they are going to pop right out of her head. "While you were passed out there were two kids that ran down the hall right outside this door." She nods her head toward the door in front of them. "There was a man following them, and then well, the kids were screaming and all of a sudden they stopped. The man walked back past the door a minute or two later with a big bag over his shoulder, I think I know what was in it." "No." Taken back by what her sister was telling her, "No it. They. I mean. It's." "I think it was the children, Ronni. I don't know where we are, but I am really scared. I want Mommy and Daddy." A single tear rolled down her cheek and she wiped it on her shoulder, "But we have to keep our minds clear and not all jumbled up with bad thoughts. We need to figure out how to get out of here and fast." "I don't know we're supposed to do that Dawn! We're strapped to chairs and we don't know where the hell we are! How the hell are we supposed to get out of here fast?" Ronni screamed at Dawn. Dawn looked away and whispers almost too quiet to hear herself, " You promised you wouldn't.." But she is cut short by a loud bang on the door to their room. A large man accompanied by a smaller, wimpier looking man enter the room. Their stares could kill, yet the wimpier looking man has a slight look of sorrow in his eyes. Ronni can't quite make sense of it. If he worked in a torture chamber like this how could he possibly feel bad. He chooses to do this, right? Dawn closes her eyes and tilts her head down. She can't get herself to make eye contact with those men. Ronni on the other hand stares them down pure anger shooting through her whole body. She clenches her teeth and fists so tightly that her head pounds and her knuckles turn snow white. When Ronni finally gets her mouth to work she says, " What do you want with us?" The men just stares and starts to chuckle.
