“This just in. A deadly attack in Rural Kansas today has left seven hospitalized and two dead. We now go live to channel 12 news reporter Jessica Young with more.”

“What a shame,” said one person. “I’m scared,” said another. “Don’t be, that will never happen here,” said one man, his voice reassuringly confident.

Everybody was talking, buzzing about, except for one. He was young, in his early teens. He did not speak to the others, nor did he comment. He just stared at the screen, waiting for the part of the newscast that was almost obligatory after an incident of this kind. “Let’s see what the families and friends of the victims have to say.” The screen then cut to a woman, answering questions from the reporter. “What do you think the Government should do to help prevent these kinds of attacks in the future?” The woman on the screen, through her sobs, whimpered two words: “Gun Control.”

There it was. The media once again acting as the instrument of corruption and deception. Behind that screen was an editor, arranging clips to send a message to the people, “guns are evil, get rid of them.”

His entire life, this poor soul had been a pariah. Maybe it was because of his weight. Maybe it was because he was a total nerd. Or, maybe it was because of his politics. His entire life, he had been surrounded by people with different ideas. He lived in a blue state, went to a public school, and during his teens, the most impressionable time in a persons life, would coincide with the reign of one of the country’s most liberal President’s of all time.

Even though he family was full of Conservatives, they lived in a blue state. Why? Because, that’s where his father’s work was. He could ask his parents to move, and they probably would, but it wouldn’t make any difference. His views were too Conservative for the Liberals, but also too Liberal for the hard-core Republicans. He was trapped.

“We now go live to the White House, where the President is about to give a press conference about the incident.”

“As expected,” he thought. “Of course he’s got something to say. It’s an election year, after all. He has to keep his approval rating up if he wants to stay in office.”

As the President began to speak, the man grew angrier as it continued. It wasn’t so much the lies the President was saying as it was the fact that he, like all politicians from both parties, was lying to the American people knowingly. Instead of allowing people to have the right to defend themselves in these situations, he proposed getting rid of guns altogether.

And so the news went on, looping back to facts and such from the incident. They didn’t matter, the initial shock values was all gone, used up already. This is where the man stopped paying attention. He didn’t care about the details and such, just about how it would impact him. Beneath all those conspiracy theories and conservative values was just a single self-conscious human being, looking out for not just him, but his country.
