Chase Silverman had always dreamed of winning the lottery. Finally being able to afford the car and house of his dreams was always his biggest fantasy. Chase wasn't a poor man. In fact, he had more than most people his age. He was very fortunate, but very unappreciative. Yet he wanted more. Countless conversations began with, “when I win the lottery...”

On August 16th, 2008, all of Chase Silverman's dreams came true. After years of trying, he finally did it. Chase has won 355 million dollars after his numbers matched perfectly with the numbers on his television. He gasped in disbelief as he jumped out of his chair. Chase wasted no time coming forward to claim his money. He went in that day to receive the giant check he thought he deserved.

Thousands of people swarmed around him. Some asking what he planned on doing with all of that money, some asking for generous donations. Chase ignored all of the comments and questions. It was his money now, why should he have to share? No one ever helped him when he needed it, so he had become quite the cold hearted man. Which caused him to not have very many friends, but now, everyone wanted to be his friend. For the first time, everything was about him. He loved all of the attention he was getting.

After he claimed his money, he took a trip to the bank to deposit his newly acquired fortune. As he approached the entrance, he saw a man sitting on the sidewalk holding a sign that read, “Need money for food”. The man appeared to be homeless with only the shirt on his back and not a penny to his name. Chase locked eyes with the man for a moment, but quickly looked away and proceeded on into the bank with his enormous check in hand.

“Hello, my name is Chase Silverman and I just won the lottery,” he stated proudly with a huge grin on his face.

“Well aren't you a lucky man! But pardon my saying, you don't seem like you really need this money, Mr. Silverman.” The woman at the desk said as her eyes scanned Chase, who was dressed in a designer suit and tie with matching loafers.

“Excuse me? You know nothing about me.” Chase snapped.

The woman pursed her lips before replying, “Trust me, I've met people like you before. Arrogant, selfish and ungrateful. Some people would kill to be in your shoes. You don't deserve this money.”

Chase looked down as the woman finished adding the money to his account. Once she finished, Chase got in his Jeep and drove to the nearest car dealership. The first purchase he wanted to make was his dream car.

After a long drive, he finally reached the dealership. He scoped the place until his eyes fell upon the most beautiful vehicle he had ever seen, a 2009 Lamborghini Aventador. They even had it in his favorite color, lime green. Chase knew immediately that this was the one.

“Hello sir, how may I help you today?” said the voice of a friendly salesman that had quickly approached Chase.

“How much for the green one?” Chase asked, even though he knew he'd buy it no matter the price.

“That beauty there is about $500,000. One of our more luxurious vehicles.” The salesman proclaimed.

“I'll take it!” Chase said with excitement in his voice. The salesman was chocked but thrilled as he escorted Chase inside to sign the paperwork.

After about an hour of signing paperwork, Chase walked out of the dealership with the keys to his dream car. His heart was beating like the wings of a hummingbird. His adrenalin was pumping as he took off like a bat out of hell. Reaching speeds of 90mph, Chase had never felt so alive as he sped down the curvy road. By now he was going well over 100mph, rounding each corner with grace.

Noticing there was no music playing, Chase reached over toward the passenger floor, fishing for a CD. Unaware that he was swerving all over the road. With the disk in hand, Chase sat up as he turned a steep corner. There was a man walking down the road. Chase panicked and jerked the wheel to the right trying to avoid him, only to collide head on with a large tree. The force of the impact killed Chase instantly. What Chase never knew, was that the same homeless man he had ignored at the bank, was the same man that just cost him his life.

I wrote this in my creative writing class. We had to write a fiction piece about irony.
