It's all Black and White
It’s all Black and White
Everything was perfect just the way she wanted it to be. Her dress was freshly pressed, her hair in order and waiting for the love of her life to pick her up for the party. Edward White was a kind, brilliant and sincere young man. He made her feel giggly when he was around.
They were going to the party at Samuel Ecridge’s house, who was a dear friend of both of them. Edward was to pick her up at seven o’clock, and it was presently a half passed seven. Elizabeth Black waited most of the night for Edward. He didn’t show, and she soon went to bed.
The next morning she rose and wrote a letter to Samuel asking if he had seen Edward at the party yesterday. Finishing the letter, she gave it to a servant who had business in town and told him to mail it for her. The letter having been sent, she went into her drawing room and attempted to focus on painting.
However, Elizabeth was worried that something had happened to Edward and couldn’t focus on her work. Spending the whole day in worry she didn’t eat or drink much. Being mentally exhausted, Elizabeth hit the hay. She woke to her maid bringing her breakfast and another servant bringing letter from Samuel. The letter went as said,
Dear Miss Black,
I saw Mr. White at last night’s party. With a short discussion with Edward, he said you were sick and could not attend the party. He also said that he should go to the party and enjoy himself. He came to the party with a lovely brunette, seemingly twenty-four, claiming that she was his sister visiting from a faraway country.
Sincerely Yours,
Mr. Samuel Ecridge
Elizabeth knowing something had been going on with Edward but not wanting to believe it, spending all day in her room weeping and not eating anything because she knew that brunette wasn’t Edward White’s sister.
Annabelle was his only sister with sunshine blonde hair. The White brothers and Annabelle were the only part of the family left alive after their parents died in the Main Street fire. A year and a half after that tragedy, Annabelle came down with a fever and died. Elizabeth had by her bedside and kept her company until she passed. Edward, Landon and Rhalp felt their sister’s death deeply. This was twelve years ago Wednesday. Elizabeth was crying and utterly frustrated at her beloved Edward. Her sister Elodie came down the stairs and saw Elizabeth sobbing. She got Elizabeth calmed down and heard her story of what had happened.
Elodie was a special kind of person and was raised in the old ways. She went to town and found Edward White with his “new girl” Belle. Elodie knew they ways of witchcrafts, disguised herself as Belle and when she went to go to the powder room, Elodie went up to Edward and enchanted him. She took him to a secret room and stole a lock of his chocolate brown hair. Tied to a chair, Edward was freaking out asking, “Belle, what are you doing? Why are you doing this to me?”
“Hahaha, Belle wouldn’t do such a thing!” replied Elodie with a sneer.
Her disguise slowly fading away, her icy stare drilled into him. “How dare you cheat on my sister! You make her fall in love with you and then rip her still beating heart out with no remorse.”
Edward, knowing the kind of person Elodie was, started to whimper and spew words that would save him.
Cackling Elodie said, “I’m not going to kill you but you will be punished for what you have done to my sister. You will be cursed.”
“No, please! I will do anything! Just don’t curse me!”
“You have done enough! You will bare nothing but boys and every time they find their true love, they will love no one but her. They will be allowed to be with their love for one year, before a tragedy happens. If they are unfaithful sooner, their tragedy will happen sooner. They will have to undo your wrong doings.”
“What if my sons can’t break the curse?”
“Then the curse will pass down to the future generations, continuing until someone is able to stop it.”
Taking a slim knife hidden in her hair, she cut a thin line on Edward’s forearm, collecting a small amount of blood in a glass pendant that hung around her neck. She then proceeds to gather all the things she needed for the spell. Having gathered all that she needed and hearing Belle return, she untied him and sat in his lap and started to laugh as Belle rounded the corner.
“Oh, you’re such a flirt! You sure know how to make a lady smile.”
Belle, taking an intake of breath as she realized who the man was, turned away crying and furious. Edward jumped up and went to her.
“It’s not what it looks like, I can explain everything. I promise, Belle, I only love you!”
Looking shocked, Elodie said, “Who is she? You said I was the only one you loved, the woman of your dreams!”
Elodie know she hit a spot because that was the line he had used on her sister, Elizabeth.
Turning on him “Edward, is what she said true? Did you say that to her?”
Elodie then turned away and left the party at the Duncan’s home. After hailing a coach, she waited to forty-five minute drive to the Black Estate. Upon entering the house, she saw her sister asleep on the sofa. After grabbing a blanket and covering her, she went up to her room. She stated on the hour long curse that had to be carefully worded or it could go wrong, sealing the curse with Edwards’s hair and blood along with her sisters, making it so only their blood would have to power to break the curse. After the curse was finished, she wrote in her diary and soon drifted off to sleep.
The next morning when Elodie went down to breakfast, she saw her sister at the table waiting for her. “How are you this morning, Elizabeth?”
“I have been better. I just wish he would have told me.”
As they sat down to eat, they heard a knock, and their servant George answered the door. A few minutes later George appeared in the dining room.
“I have a letter for Ms. Elizabeth Black from a Mr. Edward White.” Said George grim faced.
Elizabeth made no move to retrieve the letter, so Elodie went to get it. Looking at Elodie waiting for her to open it, opening and reading the letter aloud,
My Dearest Elizabeth,
I am sorry that I did not tell you sooner. I have found that my heart belongs to someone else and her name is Belle McCoy. I do not wish to hurt you any longer, so I thought that I would send this letter to you .I truly am sorry.
Forever yours your friend,
Edward White
By the time Elodie had finished reading the letter, Elizabeth was up the stairs and entering her room, quickly following her and standing outside her door, Elodie could hear Elizabeth crying softly. Elodie decided then that it was we went on a trip. They made plans to leave for Paris. It was set, and we would leave in a months’ time.
Two weeks after they received the first letter from Edward, they received another letter from him. Elodie told her sister and she said she didn’t care and that she wished he would die. So Elodie read the letter and it was an invitation to Mr. Edward and Belle White’s wedding.
“The nerve of some people!” said Elodie as she threw the letter into the fire.
The week before their trip to Paris, both Elodie and Elizabeth went to town. They both went to the post office and told them to hold their mail as they would be gone a couple of months. After having completed several of their errands the sisters began walking to their carriage. They ran into Edward and his bride Belle. Edward tried making small talk with Elizabeth but she didn’t give him the time of day and kept walking. Quickly following her, Elodie asked “Why didn’t you want to talk to him?”
“Because I hate him and I don’t want anything to do with him…..” The rest was muffled as she got into the carriage.
A year had passed before they came back from our trip to Paris. The Eiffel Tower was a beautiful site; we enjoyed ourselves at the parties that we went attended. The balls where the ladies dress head-to- toe in fabric that shimmered like the Caribbean water, jewels that looked as if they reached out of the heavens and brought the stars down to wear. They each danced until we couldn’t stand, Elizabeth ended up dancing with the same man the whole night. She couldn’t take her eyes off his and they stayed in the dancers’ embrace even after the dance had ended. The gentleman’s name was George Black. He had hair that was as dark as the night sky, eyes that looked like they were carved out of sapphire, skin that was caramel in color and a smile that radiated when he spoke to her. They soon became quick friends and after they left Paris, they wrote each other frequently.
Upon arrival we found that Belle had given birth to twin boys but that she had died in childbirth. They were named Aden and Malcolm White. The boys reminded Edward too much of his wife so he sent them to live with his Aunt Christine, who lived in London at the time. When the boys reached the age of thirteen, their father died of a broken heart. Edward also died not telling them of the curse they now bear.
It was then Elizabeth cried for two days in her room when she found out that Edward had died, for she still loved him. Over the years George and Elizabeth had grown closer and they are now happily married, and they have a baby girl named Kaleigh who is the light of their world!
