Shut up.

Why yes, it is a great idea for me to tell you my entire schedule for the day and constantly remind you its Friday… said no one ever. Rebecca Black’s infamously popular song, “Friday” shows a complete lack of creativity and sheer stupidity. The song tells the story of a girl going on the bus with her friends. Then the lyrics continue and remind us that it is “Friday”, yesterday was Thursday, tomorrow will be Saturday and of course the next day is Sunday. I wish I could say that this song gave its listeners an important message, honestly I do. Sadly, the only message: is to make sure we always have fun on Friday. Plus, who wants to listen to that ridiculous voice of hers? Hollywood spends millions of dollars on music; they should at least make something worth listening to. Maybe even record music that people actually care about?

This song truly has so many unfortunate aspects to it that I could never cover them all. Let’s start with the fact that its story isn’t much of a story. “7am, waking up in the morning Gotta be fresh/ gotta go downstairs Gotta have my bowl/ gotta have cereal.” Can someone please tell me why it’s interesting to listen to song about getting a bowl of cereal? We all know that you eat breakfast in the mornings; there is no need to share this information with the world. I mean really, there needs to be way more creativity then that. Anyone could write a song like this and it would probably be better written! “7:45, we’re drivin’ on the highway Cruisin’ so fast, I want time to fly Fun, fun, think about fun.” There it is again, more schedule talk. No one cares what time you’re driving down the highway, and you should not want time to “fly” if you’re thinking about having “fun”. Usually people want the fun to last. Perfect example of inanity right there. Don’t worry; there is plenty of that in this song!

This song should be nominated and awarded for stupidest song ever written. Most songs tell a story, make you feel something, or even make you relate to what they’re about. “Kickin’ in the front seat/ Sittin’ in the back seat/ Gotta make my mind up /Which seat can I take?” If this song is ever going to tell a story it’s going to be the length of The Bible because she can’t choose a darn bus seat! The bus can’t even start moving until she sits down! These lines are unnecessary, even if the song had a story line to it. They are filler lines, which all songs do have, but these are just plain dumb. “My friend is by my right I got this/ you got this/ Now you know it.” Now, one could argue that these lines make you feel something. However, what that something is, is unknown. She’s telling you that you know it and you “got” it, but what do you know? What do you “got?” These are just stupid lines added in to make you think the song is deep. And the stupidest song ever award goes to…. “Friday” by Rebecca Black! Congratulations!

The lyrics of this song constantly deliver stupidity and a lack of creativity. She sings, “Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday Today i-is Friday, Friday/ (Partyin’) We-we-we so excited/ We so excited /We gonna have a ball today/ Tomorrow is Saturday And Sunday comes after...wards/ I don’t want this weekend to end.” This line isn’t even grammatically correct! It should say that we are so excited and that we are going to have a ball today. Not, “We so excited” and “we gonna have ball today.” She’s supposed to be a professional songwriter. Not only is this an example of stupidity in this line but we can also see an example of lack of creativity! We didn’t even need two different lines from the song! If you write a song that tells you the order of the days of the week, you have no creativity at all. Kindergarteners know the days of the week, they could have written this song easily.

I honestly believe this was the most pointless song ever, but we all know that Rebecca Black made millions of dollars for it. Personally, I have blocked out the memory of the first time I heard this so called “music”. However, I know when I was exposed to the deafening song I was appalled at the stupidity of our society. Why on earth would you encourage such awful noise? I guess you could say I’m judgmental because I’m sure a lot of work went into writing the song, but come on now; we all know there is a very high standard in the music world. I’m sorry Rebecca Black but you just didn’t meet that standard for me.
