Up, down, up, down! That’s Gunny giving the cadence for pushups. Srgt Lemke, also known as Gunny, is a teacher at the Delaware Military Academy. Before becoming a naval science teacher, he was in the Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, he was a drill instructor. One of Gunny’s favorite things is physical training. He can be strict, but he’s also nice.
Gunny was a drill instructor in the Marine Corps. Whenever we are not going over a book or taking G.O.T.S quizzes, we are drilling. Drilling is his second favorite activity, after P.T, which is physical training. At the Delaware Military Academy, we have a drill team, and he is one of the instructors. People hate the way he calls out cadence for drilling because they say you can’t understand him. This is true half of the time.
Gunny can be one of the strictest but also one of the nicest people you’ll meet. If you goof around, he gets really infuriated. Once you make him infuriated, he will tell you to fall out and go to the drill deck for physical training. He is still, one of the nicest people on Earth. When he is in a good mood, you can joke with him, and he does not care. When he is in a bad mood, just be quiet.
One of Gunny’s favorite things to do is P.T. When you make him mad, this is the first thing that comes to his mind. He takes you to the drill deck to P.T; you do a mixture of pushups and jumping jacks. When he makes us do pushups, he yells up, down, up, down really fast, and if you don’t follow, you do more. So the best way to stay out of doing pt is to be polite and not cause trouble in his class.
Srgt Lemke, or Gunny, may sound mean, but he is an excellent teacher. He lets us turn stuff in late sometimes, but only when we are being polite and showing that we care about school work. If we were lazy, he would not do that for us. He pushes all his students to excel. Gunny should be the winner because he has made my freshman year the best year of school so far.
