Choices

Choices are what can make us who we are today, or they can make us crumble down. Allison took a deep breath while she handed the teller her ticket before she looked back at the airport with slot machine’s music filling the air for the last time. This is it. Goodbye. As she entered the airplane, she turned up her music a little louder. For some reason, the sound of Justin Bieber singing to her that everything was going to be okay was taken better than when her parents would say it to her. She knew that her life wasn’t going to be the same way from now on. Would she be happier? Would life be easier?
Sitting in an aisle seat, pictures and videos replay in her mind. The acceptance letter in her shaking hands, her friends hugging and congratulating her, and the feeling of accomplishment she glowed with and the sparkle in her eyes. Then she pictured walking in, doing the audition, praying to be the showstopper that they were looking for, and Allison had to find out how a moment of triumph can go as easily as it comes.
It took one night to tear that feeling right out of her heart. Her family started talking about the future, how much more difficult it would become for the family, and how a change needed to be made. Moving to Chicago would help keep dad from traveling so much, and stress low on mom. Every aspect of this move was a positive, but one. Once that choice would be made, the future for Allison would just have to be postponed. Without understanding the impact of her feelings will take on her, she made a decision that would be best for her family, and set aside her dreams.
Auditioning for a new choir teacher and new program with the same sound and energy she was known for wasn’t good enough. Rejected, she shifted to the reality that not everyone was going to be a fan of your talent. Naive and hopeless, Allison gave up on everything, till came a second chance at the talent show at school. This was all she had to prove to herself that her talent wasn’t a waste of time.
Before she knew it, she was in the center stage, smiling looking up at the spotlight while listening to the roaring crowd in front of her. I got this in the bag. A 12 year old singing Justin Beiber, and a want to be prom queen that thinks she is the next Beyoncé doesn’t have anything on me. Allison was chosen to be in the top 3. “And the winner is, Joshua singing Baby by Justin Beiber!”Announced the host, as Allison ran off the stage and grabbed all of her makeup and her purse. She slammed the car door and put the key to the ignition, and started screamed while tears flood her eyes, and ran her mascara. I’m so sick of this, I’m a loser, and I’m a failure. It’s all gone now. I hate my parents. It’s their fault. I would be happy in Vegas right now, singing, dancing, and living my dream. But why does this have to happen to me? She drove home questioning herself and trying to make sense of what she should do next.
Allison pulled up to the drive way, slammed the car into park, lowered the mirror, grabbed makeup remover wipes, and cleaned up the mascara markings and the streaming foundation. Then she took a deep breath took out her contacts, slides on her glasses, and walks inside the home where her parents and younger sister wait for her.
“Hey! How did it go? “Her parents asked.
“Great! I’m glad I gave it up, it isn’t the same anyways. Everything probably happened for a reason,” explained Allison.
Her mother came over to her, and kissed her on the forehead.
“We are proud of you. Don’t ever forget that. You made a decision that showed you are great, and you always put yourself first.” Her mother assured. Allison lifted her head, and swallowed hard.
“Good. I’m going to bed though. Goodnight!” She kissed her parents and started up the stairs.
“We love you!” They called up after her.
Allison, took a deep breath, and whispered, “I love you too,” while she walked to her bedroom, and began to scream into her pillow. Allison calmed down and realized that the right thing to do isn’t always the thing that you want to do, and she made the right decision.
