Miracle at Lambeau
“Miracle at Lambeau”
Richie puts on his football uniform for the middle school semifinals, at Lambeau Field in Greenbay,Wisconsin. He plays for the Eagleville Hurricanes, who will be facing the Mountaineer Tigers. He has been waiting for this moment ever since the season started, and he is only one game away from going the championship. The stands are getting crowded and high- school coaches are scouting the players.
His mom brings him to the game two hours early so he can get loose. He likes to be like the pros who come out early with their headphones on and warm up. He is the inspirational one on the team who gets everyone hyped up for the games. Richie loves the game of football and is dedicated to play for life.
Richie plays cornerback and is a star at that position. He averages two interceptions a game and has forced a fumble every single game this season. If you have ever been to one of his games you will know what I’m talking about. You wouldn’t believe the kinds of plays he makes. After the warm up, his team left the field and traveled into the locker room and the coach told them the game plan.
When it is game time, the offense is up first to hit the field. On the first play the running back had a 43 yard run. The Hurricanes drove the ball down to the fifteen yard line, but they only came away with a field goal. The defense was up next and they kept the momentum that the offense created. Richie had some tackles and forced them to punt it away. One of the tackles in this drive was when they threw the ball and the receiver had to jump for it. Richie knocked his legs out and the receiver got injured. The Hurricanes offense was up again, they drove the ball down the field to the one yard line. It was then fourth and one. The coach decided to go for it, but they were stopped. It was a goal line stand for the Mountaineer Tigers. As the quarter ended, Richie was motivating his team to finish the drives.
When the second quarter started, on the first play, the Tigers attempted to pass, but Richie jumped the route for an interception and ran it back for a pick 6. He felt so happy and hyper; he gave the team motivation and momentum. The score was now 10-0. A 63 yard pass set the Tigers up for a field goal. It was good. The Hurricanes were on offense again and Richie's quarterback threw a 33 yard interception that was returned for a touchdown. The score was now 10-10 at halftime. Richie and the team felt good about their chances of winning going into half
Everyone was worn out and had no confidence. He knew that by everyone looking glum. They had no faith in their talent. The team was walking to the huddles instead of running. Richie gave them a little talk about believing and trusting your teammates. He told them to have confidence and not to get down on yourself.
In the third quarter, they were ready to play hard. The Tigers kicked a field goal making the score 13-10.There were a few good stops by both teams. It was the fourth quarter and all the weight was on the defense to make stops. The Tigers and Hurricanes were holding each other on drives. There was thirty seconds left on the clock and the Tigers had the ball up by three points. It was third and seven, and they had to pass it to achieve a first down to close out the game. They tried to pass, but it was a miracle! Richie picked it off and took it to the house for a 78 yard pick 6 touchdown. He scored as time expired and they one. The score was 17-13 and the Eagleville Hurricanes are going to the Championship. It went down in history as the “The Miracle at Lambeau.”
