Short story- the boy in my book
Last night he called another girl beautiful. Does he not understand that my whole world revolves around his being? Obviously not. I thought we felt the same but to Mister Andrew Dooley, I'm just another pretty face, worthless. It all started in sixth grade, when Andrew, Drew for short became the new student at my school. All of the girls drooled over him. The day he stole my heart was the day he picked up a lizard and the tail fell off and it hit me then Drew apologized, how sweet.
Now, lets fast forward to my senior year in high school, probably the worst year of my life. The year Drew decided to move to Manhattan. I was crushed, the day he left, I had no one to admire. Finally, when we went to college, guess who was on my floor? That's right, Drew. He actually remembered me and instead of calling me by my first name, Brittany, he called me by my last name, Hennessy, I like to say its a term of endearment. Sooner or later Drew started to coincidentally see me more and more often then asked me on a date. Any sane girl would have been in paradise, which I was, or I wished I was because now I have a date with Drew and I have a date with a guy I work with, Bradley.
Lets compare Drew and Bradley, Drew is the typical jerk, he is the kind of guy all of the girls love but he hurts them the most, he is wealthy and very very handsome. On the other hand, Bradley is sweet, cute, not wealthy, and not very experienced with the ladies. I won't bore you with all of the small details but tonight was my first date with Bradley, he took me for a walk in the park and a picnic. Drew took me on his private jet to Paris to have breakfast, and dinner in Milan. Drew spoiled me just on the first date.
I had another date with Bradley the next week, he took me to play baseball at night when no one was on the field. There is a story behind the baseball idea. The day I had my second date with Bradley was the day I celebrated my father's fifth year of being in Heaven, my father was a professional baseball coach and he would take me out to the fields a few times a week when I was younger and I haven't been since he died, except for when Bradley took me on our date. My second date with Drew consisted of white water rafting and for private ski lessons with a professional. Now, I have been constantly seeing these two guys at the same time for about two months, all of Bradley's dates are sentimental where as Drew's dates are fabulous. Soon, I am going to have to make a decision: who to choose to invest all of my time in, Drew or Bradley.
One night, Bradley came over, unannounced and walked in on me and Drew, on our date. He was devastated and didn't talk to me for weeks. I decided to cool it with Drew to apologize to Bradley. After a few weeks, I told Bradley I was sorry. Little did I know the reason he came to my house that night- he came over with a bouquet of flowers and a card saying he loved me, everything about me he adored. I couldn't feel worse at this moment. I didn't know what to do or what to say. I was clueless and hopeless. I told him I was sorry that I lied but I've been writing this book since sixth grade and someone offered to publish it. I know I said I was sick but I didn't know what else to tell you.
"What do you mean you were writing a book?" Asked Bradley.
I replied, "In sixth grade I started a book and stopped writing it my senior year of high school then started again my freshman year in college. This is going to sound stupid but in my book, I was writing about my dream guy."
Luckily, Bradley was understanding. My book became published and Drew Dooley became famous. Bradley and I were blessed a year later with a precious baby girl. Last night Kate was born and he called her beautiful. Since sixth grade I thought I had a perfect description of a dream boyfriend but all this time was wasted when I could open my eye and look right in front of me and see the perfect guy was there all along.
