The Call
The Call
I sit up straight as a board in my bed. I hear the nauseating drone of sirens behind me. I quickly jumped off my bed and ran down stairs. As I reached my living room I realize the sirens were closer than I had thought. I peeked out my window to see a whirl wind of flashing lights attacking my eyes. I ran outside to see what all the commotion was about. As I approached what looked to be the sheriff I saw a look of despair on his face. My heart nearly skipped a beat as he told me this horrible news. My parents had been driving back to their residents when a nearby truck in the opposite lane hit a patch of black ice and slid in to oncomingtraffic, my parents just couldn’t get out of the way in time. To my surprise he told me they were still alive but my father’s chances of surviving were very low. My heart sank at the thought of losing my father I was only 18 trying to work my way through college I couldn’t handle losing my father’s support.
I got in my car and drove off to the hospital. I waited there all night until morning when I finally got to visit them. The nurse directed me to their rooms as I walked into my Father’s room it almost brought me to tears. He had always been such a strong spirited man that would seem to fill the room with joy were ever he went. But to see him now lying in a hospital bed fighting for his every breathe shocked me to my core. He was heavily sedated and wasn’t waking up anytime soon but I stayed by his side and talked to him. Even though I knew he could not hear me I t made me feel much better to know he was still there with me. The nurse directed me to my mother’s room. My eyes met hers as I walked in the room. To my relief my mother had only broken her arm. She told me the whole story.
