Happy Endings

He'd had a hard life. His wife had left him for some cheap Vegas guy. It had hurt... a lot. He was mostly over it now, but he'd never get over her taking their-her-his daughter. Of all the dirty tricks, that had been the lowest. But it was getting easier to drive by the school and see all the little girls and boys playing, laughing, dancing around.

Today he was on his way to coffee. It wasn't just any coffee, it was a sort of date. He was excited and worried at the same time. It, of course, wouldn't be the first. Somehow they never ended up like he hoped they would. Ever. But it was gonna change. He could just feel it. As he walked into the coffee shop, it was a small Irish cafe called Lucky Charm, he glanced around to see what tables had a single customer. All of a sudden, the door behind him jangled. That's right, it jangled. You got a problem with that? So sue me. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, the door jangled. As he glanced around, he saw a beautiful blond sashay in. He held his breath. Without a second glance she passed him and sat down at the table across from a younger man. Of all the luck...

Suddenly a waitress was in front of him. She was skinny, medium height, and a brunette with flashy red highlights.
"Um?" He took a step back.
"Hey, you're Mike right?"
"What's it to you?" He was kind of on edge give the guy a break.
"Well, I'm Tamara. You do... wanna have coffee, right?"
"Um, I wasn't expecting..." He trailed off, he didn't want to hurt her feelings but this is not what he needed right now.
"Wasn't expecting what exactly? A smart brunette? Do you want me to find you a dumb blonde? Maybe that one?" She pointed to the blonde that moments ago had set his heart thumping... No need to tell her about that...
"Um, no. It's okay. If you're okay."
"Uh, duh I'm okay. I'm not the one stuttering."
"Oh, right. Yeah, okay, coffee. Sure. Great."
"Are you done with the one word sentences?"
"Sure. So, I don't really know much about you..."
"Well, I'm in my twenties, I like, no, love singing, I hate dancing, love people, reading and doing crazy things."
"Wow, do you... I don't know, practice in front of a mirror?" He grinned into his coffee. He was relieved to find that he could speak.
"Psh... Duh, don't you?" She smiled back, her eyebrows raising just slightly.

He looked up, and at that moment he knew. Oh, he'd never forget what his wife did to him, or how his daughter was far away. No one can forget things like that. But with Tamara in front of him, he knew he'd sure as hell try. They laughed and talked some more, both relieved and glad that it was so easy to talk. There weren't two happier people in the world, there couldn't be.

2 years later...
After a couple more coffee dates they had decided to get married. And not just because their names looked great on the wedding invitations. It was almost love at first sight... Now they were here, through the turbulence of the relationship and all the problems. The important thing was that they were here now. And no Vegas guy was going to ruin their night.

Not everyone gets a second chance. He had been very, very lucky. He'd gotten a second chance at life, love, and happiness. Not everyone gets happy endings, but he did. At least for now. All good things must come to an end they say. But they wouldn't, not for him, not now. He couldn't be happier. His life couldn't get any better. And that was all it was... A happy ending.
