One Summer Day

It was a magnificently beautiful summer afternoon, around 8 o’clock. The sky was dark blue, it faded into light blue, then into a pinkish orange where the sun was half set over the mountains. It was warm, the flowers and weeds in the meadow smelled like sweet honey. The only sound was the sound of crickets, humming, melting into the sound of the wind. And there, sat 17-year-old Layla leaning against a tree in the meadow, facing the sun, her neon blue like eyes glowing. Her wavy long blonde hair glistened in the sun; her head was facing down at a notebook.

Layla was lonely, she always wrote stories about falling in love, just then she made a wish. She wished as hard as she could, that she would fall in love and not be lonely anymore.

Layla stayed, watched the sun set and packed up her notebooks. It was a mile or two walk through the woods back to her house, but just then a fear ran over Layla, but why? She walks through the path everyday but she didn’t know why she suddenly became scared. ‘Calm down you’ve done this 100 times before, relax.’ She whispered to herself. Layla counted to three in her head and started running, running faster, twigs snapping, she heard voices, a force was pushing her back. She tripped and face-planted into a small hole.
A boy yelled "HEY WAIT!"
Layla grabbed her bag franticly and tried to run, she felt someone grab her she screamed.

"SHHHH I’m not going to hurt you!" He said.

"Who are you? What do you want!" She shouted.

"I’m David aren’t you Layla?”

“What? How do you know my name?”

“Your stories! You write your name on them right?”

Layla stood up. “How do you have my stories?” Layla said more relaxed.

“They were sitting there one morning, I read it and thought it was beautiful…”

“Thanks but what do you want?”

“I just wanted to meet you, you have creative writing style and your stories, they’re so sweet”

“There’s other ways of approaching people instead of chasing them through the woods ya know.”

David gave an awkward smile “Ha yea… sorry about that I seen you in the meadow today, I think you’re as beautiful as your writing… but I seen you today writing, I didn’t want to disturb you and I was kinda scared to approach you.”
“So you watched me…?”
“Well… you make it sound like I’m creepy but I’m not, I swear.”
“Layla laughed so David wouldn’t feel embarrassed. “I have to get home its late, you wanna walk with me?”
“Sure!” David said willingly. Was David starting to fall for Layla? They started talking about her stories, and then the edge of the path appeared.
“Wow that was fast.” Said David. “Oh my gosh, your arm!” shouted David.

Layla’s arm was puffy and red. Then all of a sudden she collapsed.
“LAYLA!" David screamed.

Layla seen everything happen in slow motion, the men getting out of the car and sticking a needle into David, “No.” she tried to scream but it came out into a cracked whisper. The men dragging David in the van, and then dragging her back too. She tried to squirm away but she had no energy, she closed her eyes.

Layla woke up in a cold concrete room, her arm bandaged. The walls were made of gray old bricks. There was a door with a barred window. Layla looked over and seen David. His Brown hair looked darker in the poorly lit room, and his shorts had dust and dirt on them.
“David” Layla said “DAVID” she yelled
David woke up “huh, what?” he said.
“David help me, I’m stuck…”

Layla was handcuffed to a pole. David instantly jumped up and ran over.
“What happened?” Layla said still sounding drowsy.
“I don’t know, those guys, they just came out and you collapsed, I thought you died I was scared.”
“The poison ivy.”
“What?”
“The poison ivy, the small hole I fell in while you were chasing me, had poison ivy, I’m extremely allergic to poison ivy, that’s why I collapsed.”
“Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry Layla I didn’t mean for that to happen!”
“No it’s okay.”
“No it’s not!! You could have died! I almost killed you!”
“No, no it’s okay I promise, plus the swelling went down, see.”

Layla smiled so David wouldn’t feel bad about it, and she pointed to her arm, the swelling had decreased quite a bit and it was bandaged. Then an older man came to the door, he looked like he was in his forties, and had a business suit he was also kind of heavy set.
“You!” Yelled David, David stood up to run after the man when the man pulled out a gun that stopped David in his tracks.
“STOP!” yelled the man; his voice was stern and cold.
Layla was confused. “What’s going on here? Who-“ the man cut Layla off
“Silence! Sit down David”
“Leave her go she has nothing to do with this, and I don’t either! It was my parents! Not me! And you killed them! So leave me alone!”
“Shut Up!” shouted the man.
David walked back over to Layla. “Let her go!!” Shouted David
“Give me my money and she is free, and I’ll leave you alone.”

David became so angry and screamed and ran over to the man, the scream made the man drop his gun, it went off, Layla screamed and David tackled the man. Since the man had such an unfitted suit and he was heavy set, it was hard for him to move. David was standing over him punch after punch, blood was starting to show on David’s fist then the Man stopped moving altogether. Layla was huddled down with her hands over her head. David stood up with keys in his hand. He went over to Layla, she was silently crying.
“No, its okay Layla we’re okay, you’re not hurt, are you?”
“N-n-no.” Layla said stuttering.
“I’m sorry Layla, come on let’s leave.”

David unlocked her from the pole and held her up she fell in his arms hugging him she hugged him tight. “Thank you” She whispered.
