Never Forgetting
I walked off the stage as my father smiled at me proudly. I kept walking and soon I heard someone calling my name in the distance, but it seemed like they were close. Soon I came back to reality, I saw my Dad smiling over me. He was calling me for the past ten minutes and I was asleep. So everything was just a dream. I got up and got dressed, immediately running downstairs. I stopped suddenly when I saw my best friend Chloe's parents who were almost like my second parents sitting down in my living room crying uncontrollably.
I slowly walked up to them, cautiously looking at their faces trying to figure out why they were crying. I looked down at the coffee table where the daily newspaper laid, my eyes widened as I read the headline. I quickly burst into tears, this was the reason they were crying. My best friend- their daughter-had died. The article read, “A stray bullet ran straight into a young girl’s heart killing her instantly.” The doctors had tried the best they could, but nothing helped. Why! Why was this happening? I ran into them, giving them a tight hug to let them know they had my sympathy.
My dream now had turned to a nightmare. I didn’t know what to think, my hands were trembling and I could barely get words out of my mouth. The tears flowed and poured like a waterfall. I didn’t feel like going to school today, so I stayed home. I had my dad call the school and tell them what was happening. I couldn’t stand to think about my best friend. I was going crazy over what was happening and how there was no way I could fix it. The following week I decided to not let the news bug me and acted like nothing was wrong, even though I knew it was.
I had my audition this week and even though I didn’t want to go - my dad forced me to go just to get away from everything. I decided I would go. As soon as I reached the building where the auditions were, I went inside not thinking about anything - just this audition. My part was to play a girl who gets lost after going to party in the woods. Soon a killer starts murdering her friends. It was close to what was happening to me in my life. The writers decided to cast me in the movie and asked me if I could sing too. I nodded and they told me to sing a song, which I did. They were overwhelmed with my talent, so I got an agent and manager to balance my future career.
I went home with a huge smile on my face. My dad greeted me at the door cautiously looking at my expression. “What's going on? Why so happy? Did you kill somebody?” My dad said. “I didn’t kill anyone,” I laughed. “I got the part and they offered me a singing career also!” My dad swooped me up in a hug. He swung me around and started to laugh. “I’m just glad you didn’t kill anybody,” he kidded. A month went by and my career was going great. I still didn’t forget what had happened a month earlier, but I kept that incident at the back of my head, locked in a box. I didn’t want that accident to ruin my career or my life. It shook me up, but I didn’t show it the way people expected me to. I wanted my career to head to the top for the betterment of my family, which included my dad and brother.
One year later my concert was about to start and before I went to sing I made an announcement. “All my fans out there, I came a long way and it’s been a year now since I made it into show business and acting. But today isn’t just about me, I wanted to honor my best friend Chloe who died by taking a bullet to the heart. She was in the right place at the wrong time. And I would like to dedicate this song to her,” I said. My fans were quiet and I played the song I had written in her dedication. After my song ended, my fans cheered. It was a special night for me and I know I will remember it forever...
Many years later my career took off, but each year I grieved for Chloe by lighting candles and singing my song in her absence. I had been through a lot since then. I had matured and had my own family. I came a long way from being that little girl who was easily frightened. I was now a grown woman who had a family. I had embarked on many adventures, but my only wish was to have my best friend here and to share everything with her as I grew old. Sometimes things don't always go the way we plan, but I guess we have to adapt or live with it.
