Simple things make me happy.
The homely scent of green tea brewing from the kitchen, the dancing cookie-cut shadows of the shimmering leaves on the pavement, the salty atmosphere of fresh renewal following the thunderstorm, the blinking lampposts that wink at you as you speed by on the freeway, the etching feel of ink scrawling departed words on new sheets of paper, the gentle ivory wood of the keys on a piano creak as you spin a melody out with your hands.
I think it’s because the little things are so much more plentiful, so when you take them in bit by bit, before you realize it, you’re completely full, and then those looming shadows don’t seem so dark anymore.
