embracing heritage
All my life I've always know I have some Native American blood in me. The Taino's, a subgroup of the Arawak people, were the indigenous people of the Carribean and Florida. Columbus' visit all those centuries ago killed off the majority of my people, bringing disease and starvation, the Taino's fell prisoners to the Spaniards. Columbus' men slaughtered, enslaved, and did many other unthinkable things to people who welcomed them with open arms and gifts. But he did not win, we are still here. This is me embracing my heritage.
