When I crammed all my demons into a cardboard box
I never expected them to seep through,
Or crawl up and wiggle through the locks
(And eat away the multicolored duct tape too.)
Their split fingernails and yellow hands
Lazily crept back to my eroded soul,
Dripping through me and leaving my sanity in strands,
And dancing inside me, they took full control.

But maybe they were never meant to be shut away,
Maybe they should have been framed and hung on a wall,
To be a constant reminder of my battle scars and put on display,
So that you could have seen the real me, flaws and all.
So it's time to yank off the rest of the paper today,
And to finally let my demons play.
