I promise
The last two words I want to hear
Promises can break
Some easier than others
Yet what happens to promises broken
Or even kept?
Broken promises
Aren’t just promises not kept
They are hearts
Slowly melting away
Blind eyes now seeing what
You say is the truth
Can change day to day.
Kept promises
Build bonds between two people
Bringing out trust and honesty
The most sacred and precious gifts
That when taken away
Nothing else would matter.
My promise to myself
Is to be myself
Not only is that a promise today
But it’s tomorrow’s guarantee.
