Summary: Willa and her brother Caelon must escape from their cruel mother who wishes to kill them. They run from her but Caelon is turned into a deer. Willa stays by him for a while until she is captured and taken to the palace of Treanne where she meets the sickly queen, becoming friends with her and hearing her stories of her life.
Here she learns what it is like to grieve and to love and to have a family.
