Joe Dunthorne’s Submarine is a laugh-out-loud British comedy following fifteen-year-old Oliver Tate and his series of unfortunate events, as he navigates through the struggles of being a teenager.

While convinced that his Dad is severely depressed and his Mum is having an affair, young Oliver tries to fix his family while also attempting to lose his virginity to his girlfriend Jordana.

This is a brilliantly funny novel through the perspective of a teenage boy and his encounters with early adulthood in the form of sex, death and secondary school.

I liked this book as Oliver’s naive comedy brightened the story while discussing some challenging experiences for a young man and his mission to be a grown-up.
