Book and Movie Review: Divergent by Veronica Roth
The award winning book and movie Divergent was absolutely incredible! The book was heart-stopping. I just couldn't stop reading. The movie was equally good. I even saw it twice!
The action-packed book and movie Divergent is about a girl named Beatrice. Beatrice lives in a utopian world that is divided into two groups called factions. You grow up in your parents' faction, but when you turn sixteen, you have to chose the one you belong in. When Beatrice's test results come back inconclusive, or Divergent, that means your mind can trick the tests. What faction will she chose? Candor, those who tell the truth? Amity, the kind? Abnegation, the selfless, and her old faction? Erudite, the most knowledgeable? Or, Dauntless the brave? When she choses Dauntless, her whole life changes. She gets a new name, meets Tobias, a handsome Dauntless leader, and finds out that being Divergent is very dangerous. The world is tumbling, and war is coming. This book and movie is sure to bring chills up your spine!
The movie stars Shailene Woodley as Tris, Theo James as Tobias, Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Ansel Elgort as Caleb, Miles Teller as Peter, and Kate Winslet as Jeanine. They all did amazing at playing their parts, but Shailene Woodley was my favorite actor. To me, she was such an amazing Tris Prior.
I love Veronica Roth's writing and imagination. The book never had a dull moment. There was always a jaw-dropping time. Divergent is action-packed and you feel like you're in the main character's shoes. You could just feel the emotion and love throughout the book.
I loved how the movie was practically identical to the book. The casting in this movie was fantastic! The connection between Tris and Tobias was wonderful! When I imagined Tris, I imagined someone just like Shailene Woodley. And same with Tobias, played by Theo James. The movie felt so authentic, almost as if it were real life.
I definitely recommend reading the book, and watching the movie, Divergent. Both are filled with action, and it really teaches you some good lessons. This book and movie is full of action, emotion, and romance. If you like any of those three, then you'll like Divergent. So, will you follow the series? Don't you want to be a part of the magnificent world of Divergent?
