Stop and Think
How would you feel waking up in the morning looking at your phone with text saying, "Just kill yourself already"…. "The world would be better without you"…. " No one would even notice you were gone"? Teens all over the world wake up to these text---- they believe the world is a better place without them, they believe it's not worth it, they don’t believe that the world would lose a lot if they---- if they lose hope, if they give up, if they commit suicide.
Nearly 43,000 Americans die by suicide every year. Every 12.3 minutes some American dies by suicide. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people 44 and under. If you think your child is thinking of committing suicide you should try talking to them, try spending more time with them, don’t push them away. Teens are teased----mocked, even threated just for being different or weird. Some of the bullies don’t know how bad the things they text or say to the victims are, until it leads the person to kill themselves. So just stop and think, think about how many people stand by and watch a person fall into depression; think about how they don’t ask how they are doing or stand up for them, think about how they laugh at them, how they do nothing to help.
Without being a part of their life, you couldn’t possibly know what is going on in their life. By pushing them away, they are sinking deeper into the thought of darkness-- not seeing the light. Make them feel wanted, make them feel close instead of a world away. Help them with their problems, get them help, don’t let them fall deeper into the darkness.
