Gun Control
Are you for or against gun control? Personally, I don’t think we should have total gun control. Guns are oftens for protection or hunting and technically, taking away our gun rights is unconstitutional. I do, however, think that guns should not be allowed to be bought by everybody such as someone who is underage, mentally ill, or has a criminal record.
The first reason I think we should be able to keep guns is because our rights are in the constitution. “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the protection of a free second amendment in the in the Bill of Rights. It states that the people of the United States of America are allowed to have guns. Taking away the right of guns would be going against the constitution.
The second reason I think we should not have complete gun control is because many gun owners use their guns as protection. “...Tens of thousands of crimes are prevented by gun owners…” This shows how guns can actually be used to prevent crimes and supports the idea that guns should not be taken away be.
My final reason is that it is not the gun that kills, it’s the person who pulls the trigger. In most shootings, for example the Sandy Hook shooting, the person who committed the crime was not mentally stable. This doesn’t mean that we need to take away guns, just that gun sales should be more controlled so that the people unfit to handle a gun don’t get one.
Some people may argue that getting rid of all guns will get rids of shootings and murders. Gun control would reduce the number of people who get killed by guns but it won’t solve the problem. There are many other ways to kill that don’t involve guns. We can’t ban every weapon. We could help the problem simply by restricting gun sales so people who are undreage, mentally unstable, or have a criminal record can’t buy a gun.
I’m not for total gun control but I can see the upsides to it. There are many excellent points for both arguments but the solution lies in a compromise, not one side or the other. We can have a safer community and still have guns. The two ideas combined is how we are going to be able to take care of the gun problem.
