How to Be a Conservative In Massachusetts
Having an opposing belief to the general populace within your own state can be difficult to have or maintain. It can be even harder to maintain that belief when some people only have disgust when they hear it. Conservatism, in Massachusetts, a mostly leftist state, is not generally viewed as a positive political ideology. Difficulty can also arise when trying to find another person with the same political mindset due to the lack of people who have this view. Arguing conservative beliefs is the hardest part since most people disagree but ways to argue it still exist. To avoid any possible problems that may arise due to this a conservative has to do a few things in order to hide, find people with similar beliefs, and argue their beliefs.
Hiding is the first step as a conservative in Massachusetts. Mainly the best way to go about doing this is to not hide behind a corner, trust me you’ll look like a loonie, but to hide in plain sight. This is done by wearing non conspicuous clothes as to not draw any attention towards yourself. In general the clothes to avoid are one’s depicting something that can be thought of as offensive and clothes that are too small that might show off too much. Clothing isn’t the only thing to be mindful of when you're hiding but the way you speak matters as well. Don’t talk about how you like Trump, if you like Trump, or about any values conservatives have. When people ask you who you voted for say either Hillary or say that you left that part blank because you didn’t like either candidate. Sometimes though you might want to see if other people have similar beliefs as you, a conservative.
Finding out if someone else is a conservative can be difficult at times. One general baseline to work from is by asking them what their political beliefs are. When asking this you will generally get 4 responses which include: I’m a Liberal, I’m a Independent, I prefer not to answer, and once in awhile you will get I’m a Conservative. If you receive Conservative, a rarely given response, then you're in the clear, just be mindful of how loudly you talk as to not allow anybody to overhear you. When you receive the response I’m a Liberal just reply I am too and try to get away from the conversation as soon as you can. I prefer not to answer is a more interesting response since when people say that their either unsure of where they stand in political issues, scared to talk about them since their a conservative, or don’t really know much about politics and prefer to stay out of it. Figuring out whether their a conservative or not can be quite difficult to figure out so the best way to go about handling this is to just end the conversation and leave them alone. Independent is where the metaphorical money is at so to figuring out where they stand is generally easy. Just ask them about certain issues and they will typically respond truthfully so just figure out where you think they stand on based on each issue you bring up. Arguing against the left, while maintaining your cover, is by far the most difficult part of all.
To argue while maintaining your cover you have to argue in ways that would seem very strange to the average viewer. First off don’t state your political position, this is mandatory if you don’t want them to know your political position. Second state your political position as being Independent. After that make it seem like you agree with everything that they say but point out facts that go against what they said. For example reply “ yeah but one thing I don’t quite understand is how that can be true when, insert fact here, if that is true.” Finally don’t do this to many times in one sitting or they’ll, the leftists, catch on to your rouse.
Generally people are pretty nice in Massachusetts, a mostly leftist state, except for when it comes to politics. Conservatism, in Massachusetts, can generally be hidden by watching what you wear and what you say. After a little while though it may be nice to find a fellow conservative so try questioning other people's beliefs and figuring out what to do based on the responses given to you. Also argue them as if you are on their side so that they can’t figure out that you're hiding amongst them. If you follow this method precisely you will likely never have a problem with other people attacking you for your political beliefs.
