Spaghetti, Fun, and Scares
“Help mom! I’m bleeding!” I yelped, with a grimace appearing on my face.
My brother Caleb just sat there staring straight at my face, laughing as hard as he possibly could ever laugh.
“Are you ok sweetie!” Mom shouted, scurrying into the kitchen.
“I’m bleeding!” I screamed, gazing at her as she entered the room. “Help momma!”
“Caleb! Stop laughing. There is nothing to laugh about,” Mom told Caleb.
My mother examined me in two milliseconds and she knew what had happened. She only knew from the red smeared all across my cheeks, forehead, and chin.
“This is just spaghetti sauce,” she spoke, looking from Caleb to me as she was speaking, “I thought you were seriously hurt. Never ever do this again.”
By this time her face was much more relaxed than when this whole thing started, and of course I felt bad for my mom since she had worried so much over what I thought was nothing.
“Mom, I was just trying to have fun with Caleb,” I said innocently, knowing she needed to hear something that would ease her stress. “I didn’t think you would be mad and upset about this.”
My mother gave me the I-can’t-stay-mad-at-you-forever look. Finally I felt ok. Ok to play some more and not be guilty about playing. As I was leaving to go play, my mom calmly said my name.
“Anna. I’m sorry I got so mad. I just was scared that something happened to you.”
feeling loved, I opened my mouth, “I’m sorry for scaring you we were just playing.”
“You can go play now. Don’t cause anymore trouble and don’t say you’re hurt unless you really are.”
I gave her two thumbs up and the cheesiest smile I could create and zoomed over to Caleb so we could play. All in all it turned out to be a happy day at the end of my “bleeding” issue. My brother and I played and played until it was finally time for dinner. We ate Filippo’s Pizza. With lots and lots of sauce.

In school we had to pick a moment in our lives and zoom in on a small section of it. I chose this moment because it started in the middle of the action and because it has stuck in my memory for a long time.
