Here Comes the Drop

The gates opened, the sun blinded me, while a sound like thunder sped past me. The sound startled me, almost making me fall on the pavement.

I looked up, only to see track and the sound of a clicking chain.
“Come on Faith, we don’t wanna lose ya” my dad said.  We walked to a small booth with my older brother, Brandon.

“Three ‘Speed passes’ please” he asked the old lady.
One by one, each of us reached our hands inside the small opening, to get our wristbands.
“ So, which ride first?” said Brandon.
“How ‘bout that one?” my dad asked, while pointing at a ride that is high as a skyscraper. I looked at it for a second, people shot up it screaming.
“HA! No way, I ain’t going on that” I said in reply.
“ya’ll woosies” he said, “I am not gonna have fun, because of you two”.
We walked to the end of the park and finally chose a ride, “How about that one?” Brandon asked. He was looking at a large sign that read, “Maverik”.
“Ok” My dad and I replied. We quickly got in line, I sat next to my dad, while my brother sat behind us.  Suddenly, we jolted forward, “click...clack” went the chain. We slowly rose above the park. Quickly we fell, I was not ready for the 95° drop. “Tunk, tunk, tunk” water cannons shot at us. The ride spun side to side, “SCREECH!” we came to a halt, I finally could catch my breathe. Unexpectedly, we shot off like a rocket. A few more twists and turns.

The ride ended finally. Stepping out of the car, my vision would spin.

Footsteps quickly followed behind me, “oh my god! That was fun!” said Brandon.
Ya, If you like to be dizzy , I thought as a response. I quickly chose my ride of choice, “Gemini”. I was excited to go on the ride thats dual track, which is “Gemini”
We quickly chose which car we wanted, I chose blue, while Brandon and my dad chose the red car. Higher, and higher we rose, looking at each other with arrogant grins.
“I’m gonna beat you!” I yelled over to them.
“Ha! so you think huh?” my dad boldly replied. I nodded, the clicking of the chain quickly faded away as we fell. I screamed with joy. We’re ahead,  I quickly grinned. Our track began to split from theirs, our track went up as theirs went down.  Oh no, I looked down at the last piece of track, they had a few pieces that look like they were torn apart. Suddenly, we dropped and gained speed. I leaned back, with the fear that, we might crash. The old coaster shook due to our speed. Closer and closer to the ground, we got. I finally noticed that the broken tracks where a trick, to get your heart racing. When we finished my cart won, I evilly smirked to the lady in the booth saying “blue car wins!”.

Finally, I got the guts to go on the ride my dad pleaded for us to go on. It was called “Top Thrill Dragster” the tallest and fastest ride at the park. The ride made me terrified, because that you go so high at such a fast speed.

Once, we sat in our car the butterflies in my stomach, grew stronger. Looking over to my dad, I said “I don't know if i'm ready”.
“Aw, you’ll be ok” he said while patting my head like I was a dog. I looked down and worried even more, they didn’t have shoulder restraints.
“Hello everyone” a voice said, I looked up at the announcer. He had a weary smile, “I’ll be telling you a few things before you get to the launch pad” he said. “This ride stands 427 feet in the air, and goes about 120 MPH, and it is 30 seconds long”. “You need to put your head back before the ride starts, or if you don’t you’ll get serious whiplash” .
“How long does it take to reach 120 MPH?” my dad yelled out, like an idiot.
“4 seconds” the announcer replied. “This uses a thing called ‘The Catapult’ system, they use these to send jets off of aircraft carriers” he continued. My face went pale white, I don’t wanna do this...I don’t wanna do this. “Good luck!” the announcer said, while waving goodbye. Too late,we moved forward and stopped. A sign stood before us, the first line of words lit and told us “keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times”. The next line popped up “Keep your head back, hold on, and have fun”.

“Oh, I am not gonna have…” I began to say, then quickly interrupted by  three green lights that lit up one by one, but way too fast. Before I knew it I was at the top of the ride beginning to fall. We fell and had to have breaks to stop us. I stepped out of the car when we stopped. I could barely walk, my legs shook side to side.
“THAT WAS AWESOME!” yelled my dad.
“I don’t even know what happened, so I have no comment” I reacted. He slightly laughed. Brandon slowly waddled behind. “What now?” I asked.
We would finish, with the longest lined ride, “Millennium Force”. The ride seemed even scarier than “Top Thrill Dragster” .
“Hey, did you know you can see this ride shake in the wind” said my dad, for the sixtieth time.
“Really?” the kid infront of me asked.
“Yep” my dad replied, “it’s cool”.
“I don’t wanna go now” the boy said, yanking on his seemed-to-be dad’s shirt.

“Too late” the father said in reply. Once that boy sat down and got strapped in, he looked unhappy. When the pulling mechanism grabbed the car, he turn as white as a ghost. The gate in front of me opened. That began my butterflies. The distant screams of people dropping off the 308 foot tall hill, terrified me. The pulling mechanism grabbed us and we began to rise. My Dad began his childish ways and began to push and fool around with me, when we were going up.  We reached the top, my dad was still fooling around.
“Here we go!” I yelled into his ear.
“Oh, crap!” he screamed, he wasn’t paying attention. Surprisingly I raised my hands up, I never do that on rides.

I looked to my side to see my dad smiling and yelling.
“Wahoo!” I screamed. We twisted side to side, but smoothly and not rough like “Maverick”. The ride wasn’t too fast or too slow, but just right. It was enjoyable, we glided across the track. It felt like the movies, the perfect scenery. Trees, lake, beach, ponds, everything. This ride showed you the whole park! Hill after hill, the ride slows down. Slowly we made our way back to the station. Stepping out of the car, I felt like I had been flying with the seagulls. “How’d you like it?” I asked Brandon.
“It was ok, I guess” he replied.
“Well your a stick in the mud” I mumbled.

We quickly packed our stuff and left the hotel in the park. My Dad drove the car up to the exit booth. The car rumbled against the small bridge. Signs passed that would say “Thank you for visiting ‘Cedar Point’”. I looked back for a while, to what I had just done. Further and further we drove from the park, the rides grew smaller and smaller. The beach became less defined. The clinking of the machines all faded away. We began to drive back to our little home in CutlerVille,Michigan.
