Today i’m going to tell you about the career I hope to have. What I want to do as a
career is become a nurse and work in the NICU with premature babies. I also want to help
people and I want to take after my mom and many other; And it also interests me very much
to learn what nurses do to help people.
I want to help people because I think it would be a good job to help sick babies and
work very hard to get to that point. The babies are so small and fragile that it’s cute. Plus, it
also is extremely sad that those families with premature babies have to deal with either losing
their baby or having their premature baby survive. As a result I want to help keep those
babies alive. While i’m talking about families, I want to do what some very special people in
my family do.
Like my great grandma and my mom and aunt, I want to take after my mom and many
other people. The reasons that I want to keep it in the family, because it means alot to my
family members, and so that one day I could possibly pass it down to my kids one day. My
great- grandma went to college at Gustavus Adolphus in Minnesota. I also want to go there. In
order to get to that position and become a nurse, I have to work really hard at school and get
good grades for the next 4 years of high school and then, hopefully get into Gustavus and
work really hard there too. Then hopefully get my nursing degree and hopefully be able to get
my bachelors degree in nursing as well. Going back to my Great- Grandma, I admire her quite
a bit! I admire her so much, because she was the first nurse to start the nursing tradition in my
family. It wasn’t quite a tradition but her daughter(my aunt) was the next nurse and then my
aunt’s brother’s daughter(my mom) was the next one and now I want to be the next one. I
also don’t know of my great grandma’s mom was ever a nurse but all I know is that I would be
the 3rd or 4th generation to become a nurse. That interests me a lot. Which brings me to my
next point, my family interest’s me and what they do as nurses.
Well to start off, my family interests me by the stories I get to hear of my mom’s
patient’s stories(she’s a cardiac nurse that takes care of patients who need heart surgery or
after they just had heart surgery.) The stories are just so incredible and interesting and
inspiring to me that it has made me want to become a nurse as well. The stories are touching
to the heart and some of them get pretty sad but some are hilarious on what patients like to
do to the nurses. Like for instance, my mom had this patient that just got out of heart surgery
and so they have this huge bucket of nail polish and the patient painted cute little mutant ninja
turtle masks on my moms nails! However, some of the stories are sad because the nurses
can’t save every patient's life. It’s sad; however, most of the time the nurses save the patient’s
life! After they save someone’s life, they probably feel like a hero! I know I would! When my
mom tell’s me a story I always think of the family that has this patient(friend or family member)
in the hospital and thinking that they only have a certain percentage of living through, before,
or after the heart surgery. So I always think of them.
I want to help people. I want to take after my mom and many other people; It interest’s
me. So now you know what career I want and what I will have to go through to get to that
place. And what nurses do as a nurse and to help people survive in all sorts of different ways.
