The great Helen Keller quoted “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”. On October 31, 2011, I was twelve years old; I was at Star Studio. My competition group was having an arco practice. That night I felt some of the worst pain in my life. Much like Helen Keller overcome the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I  overcame breaking my wrist.
Helen Keller not being able to communicate was one of her biggest obstacles in her childhood. When Helen was a baby, she was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever which caused her to be blind and deaf. The Keller’s hired Annie Sullivan to teach Helen how to communicate. Annie was able to teach Helen trust, obedience, and language to overcome her obstacle. Helen and I overcame our obstacles in a short amount of time.
Like Helen Keller, I also had to overcome an obstacle. The practice was going great, but at the end our girls were being indolent. We were doing our last stunt, and Kensley fell on my right wrist. I overcame breaking my wrist by working very hard when I got my cast off, so I could fortify my wrist. Even though I went through a lot of physical pain, Helen went through a lot of mental pain.
Although our obstacles were different, we shared a lot of similarities. Helen and I worked so hard to overcome our obstacles. Although we did struggle a lot, we did overcome our obstacles. At the end, we both overcame them, and we were so happy with ourselves.
Both Helen and I overcame our struggles. What I learned from Helen’s experience is that we should not take the little things in life for granted. Also I learned from my experience that your life can change in a matter of seconds. Mother Teresa once said “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies”.
