Battling A Surprise Obtacle
“Live life for the moment because everything else in uncertain!” said Louis (Tomlinson). Like the quote says, Helen had to live life to the fullest. Helen didn’t think she was going to deaf or blind, you also might never know if this will happen to you. Much like Helen overcame her obstacle of communicating I overcame my obstacle of jumping over hurdles for track.
Helen’s obstacle was something no one saw coming. At two years old she could not see, and her obstacle not being able to communicate. Kate and Captain Keller finally came to an agreement after seeing Helen suffer to get someone to teach Helen. Annie with her sprightly personality helped to teach Helen to be more obedient, trustful to Annie, and sign language. After two weeks alone together, Annie has successfully got Helen to understand what everything is to communicate. Much like Helen overcame her obstacle I did as well.
My obstacle of jumping over hurdles made me premonition just thinking about it. After my coach telling me I was jumping hurdles I was shocked and worried. What if my foot got caught on it and fall? All these thoughts rushing through my head, my parents decided to step in to help me improve. Everyday we would practice on my abilities of jumping over them. With each day I slowly improved until I could finally do it. At each track meet I jumped over all the hurdles with no problem.
Helen and me both overcame obstacles we were not expecting. Even though at times it felt useless trying we kept trying. Helen and I both had someone to support us and help us improve on our obstacles. It took time to get a hang on things but we got it. At the end of our obstacles we had so much support and we were proud of ourselves that we overcame them.
Me and Helen had obstacles that seemed rough to us. I learned about Helen is that she went through a really rough obstacle. What I learned from my obstacle is to not give up so easy on things, or not to get so nervous about things. “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.” said Helen (Keller).
