Over Coming a narrative essay
“All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming.” Helen Keller once said. I was only five years of age when I obtained a struggle. It was summer 2005 a year full of perception. I had obtained acrophobia, known also as a fear of heights. Much like Helen Keller overcame the interference of not being able to communicate, I overcame my interference of acrophobia.
Helen Keller overcame the difficulty of not being able to communicate. When Helen was at the age of two she unanticipatedly became blind and deaf. As a result, her father contacted “Perkins Institute” ,where he then hired Annie Sullivan to teach Helen. Trust, obedience, and language is what Helen had gained from having Annie as her teacher and guide. Just like Helen I to overcome my interference.
At the age of nine I subjugated my fear of heights during the summer. Being a very rowdy child and disobedient one, when I was younger I fell off a slide and thats when my fear of heights became my obstacle. Summer of “2009” I went to “Six Flags” with my family and decided I wanted to ride a roller coaster known as “The Batman” after my older sister ‘Jocelyn’ persuaded me. After the traumatic ride was over, which consisted of many frantic upside down turns, I realized I was safe and that I would be okay. Helen and I both overcame our obstacles even though both of them seemed to be pulling us away from having a normal life.
Helens obstacles and mine could be considered complementary in some ways. We both had an obstacle that needed overcoming. We both had someone to persuade us that we could conquer our hardships. In the end we both learned from our obstacles. Those are some similarities between both of our experiences with what we battled.
Both Helen and myself overcame our own obstacles even though they were challenging. What I learned overall from Helens experience is that some people have it worse, so dont take life for granite. What I learned from my own experience is that you need to face your fears, because you can battle anything if you try. As the famous musician Alex Gaskarth once said “Everybody goes through some stuff. It doesn’t matter how you measure it, it doesn’t matter how it weighs out to someone elses stuff. The fact of the matter is that you have to press on and have to smile ,and you have to figure out how you’re going to keep trying.”
