“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched.”  This was once said by Helen Keller. It was in the year 2007 when I began to struggle in school. It was the beginning of my first grade year and I was behind in my reading and writing. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too had to overcome my obstacle of dyslexia.
Helen Keller had to overcome not being able to communicate; she overcomes this by getting a teacher to help Hellen learn. Helen could not communicate with people because Helen was blind and deaf at age two. Helen’s parents decided to call Annie, which was Helen’s teacher. Annie had to first get Helen to trust her, so Annie would be able to teach Helen. Annie had to break Helen’s parents’ habits of letting Helen have whatever she wanted. Annie then was able to teach Helen how to obey. Annie taught Helen how to communicate by spelling letters into Helen's hand, and then Annie would have Helen touch and feel the object Annie was spelling into her hands.
I had to overcome not being able to read and write as well as the other kids in my grade, I overcame this by getting a teacher, Reva. I struggled with reading and writing because I had dyslexia. Dyslexia is a reading disorder that occurs when the brain does not properly recognize letters.  Reva taught me how to read more fluently. She taught me how to sound out words easier, because I learned my nouns very well. Reva taught me all of this and more and I am very thankful for her being there for me. Tommy Hilfiger once said “ The road to success is not easy to navigate,  but with hard work, drive and passion, it’s possible to achieve”.
Helen Keller and I both had things we had to overcome in our life. Helen and I both had to work hard to get past our struggles, but with that hard work we both achieved our goals. We both had teachers that taught us. Helen and I both had struggles with language and reading.
Helen overcame her obstacle of not being able to communicate, and much like Helen I overcame my obstacle of having dyslexia. I learned from Helen having to overcome being deaf and blind that I need to be thankful for what I have. My own obstacle has taught me that if you want to achieve your goals in life you have to work hard. Theodore Roosevelt once said “With self-discipline most anything is possible”.
