Once said by Helen Keller “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”. It was December 11, 2007 and I was wrestling my brother in the back yard. I was six and he was nine; there was snow on the ground and then it happened. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate, I too overcame my obstacle of breaking my nose and not being able to see for three hours.
Helen Keller had to overcome the obstacle of not being able to communicate. When Helen was an infant she got sick and became blind and deaf. Helen’s parents were devastated and almost sent Helen to an asylum. Helen’s parent finally agreed to get some help for Helen and called Annie Sullivan. Annie was there to teach Helen and at first Helen didn’t want to be taught because she didn’t like Annie. Later on, Annie was able to teach Helen trust, obedience, and sign language to overcome Helen’s obstacle. The Keller’s were going to have Annie leave after a month, but by then Annie had not only taught her trust and obedience, but on the last day she finally taught Helen that things have names and that there is a way of communication.
Like Helen Keller I also had to overcome an obstacle, the obstacle of breaking my nose and not being able to see for three hours.  It happened when my brother Steven and I were wrestling in the snow, when Steven’s knee hit  me in the nose. I didn’t think anything of it until I looked down and the snow was red all around me. I ran inside and told my dad what happened and my dad got mad. He laughed and then he popped my nose back in place and as soon as he did it I lost my vision I couldn’t see. All I saw was red and then my father told me that there was blood coming out of my eyes. I overcame it by relaxing in my room listening to music. I would have watched tv, but I couldn’t see. I had help to go take a shower and when I got in the blood must have been dried up because as soon as I started to wash my face I could see again.
Although our obstacles were very different we both share a few similarities. We both struggled through them it was hard for her and it was hard for me too. We both couldn’t see, and I know hers was forever, but I got to see how it feels to be blind. and I can tell you that’s not what I want. This proves no matter how different the obstacles were we both struggled through it.
Helen Keller and I both overcame our obstacles.not Helen’s of not being able to communicate, and me losing my vision for three hours and breaking my nose. I learned  from Helen’s experience that I don’t want to go blind and deaf because its hard to be blind and deaf it’s not fun. I learned from my experience I wanted to wrestle, and I didn’t care if I got hurt I’ve been getting hurt my whole life it doesn’t bother me anymore. ¨Life is either a great adventure or nothing¨ once said by Helen Keller.
