Dream Big
Vince Lombardi once said “The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have”. It took place on a cold fall day in 2014, I was forteen years old and it was the first practice after our last game, and we lost. We were practicing hard to win our next and last game. Much like Helen Keller overcame the obstacle of not being able to communicate because she was blind and deaf, I too overcame my obstacle of not being able to win a football game.
Helen Keller overcame not being able to communicate with the rest of the world. Helen was able to overcome these obstacles because of her wonderful teacher Annie. Helen also had determination to learn even though Helen was blind and deaf. Annie had to teach Helen obedience but also Helen had to learn to trust Annie. Annie was so set on teaching Helen to communicate, so Helen could connect with the world and get what Helen is thinking out of her head.
Helen Keller once said “All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming.” Helen overcame her obstacle, like I overcame mine. I overcame my football team not being able to win a football game. I overcame this by practicing hard and playing harder. It also took determination to win. It was the week before our last game and we were all practicing hard so we could win. It was the third quarter of our last game and our quarterback Braxton Burgener got a concussion. We fought to win the whole game. We had thirty seconds left in the game and we were right on the touchdown line. We pushed and pushed and finally scored the winning touchdown.
Although our difficulties are different, there are some similarities. It took a lot of determination for both of us, for example, she was determined to learn and I was determined to win. Also we both needed to be taught in order to succeed. Another thing is we both faced problems along the way. For example I lost my quarterback and she had to overcome her anger at Annie.
Helen and I both overcame our obstacles and will never stop learning. I learned from Helen that nothing is impossible, when you try. I learned from my obstacle that no matter what you can not give up. Just remember to always push for your dream because nothing is impossible.
