Niagara Falls
The summer had just started. It was the end of elementary school and time to move on to the middle school. I had the whole summer ahead of me so I wasn’t worried about school yet. Although it was summer, I was still awoken by the ringing sound of my alarm clock. I had to go to renegades soccer tryouts so I got into my soccer clothes and got in the car. I waited for my dad for about 5 minutes and during that time I remembered that I was going to Niagara Falls the next day. He finally got in the car and that’s when I decided to ask him questions.
“Dad, why are we going on vacation to Niagara Falls?” I asked curiously.
“I remember going there as a kid and I have good memories of it. That’s why I know you and Lily will have a great time.”
It didn’t necessarily answer my question but I decided to trust his judgment.
I went through the tryouts but didn’t end up making the team. I didn’t really care because I was extremely excited for Niagara Falls. It was going to be a 4-5 hour drive but my family was up for it. My sister and I were so excited that we packed at around 5 o’clock in the afternoon. We had to wake up at around 6 in the morning the next day and get ready for the drive. We made sure we had all of our stuff and made sure we didn’t forget anything. We got in the car and started driving towards Niagara Falls. You would think that my sister and I slept the rest of the trip but it was the opposite. We were so excited to get there we stayed up the entire drive. We just looked out the window the entire trip. Once we finally got there I realized my mom and sister had fallen asleep. We had to wake them up and check into our hotel. Once we got our stuff in the room and got settled in we decided to go check out the stores.
We looked in countless gift shops down the street and finally got to a street filled with lights and stores. My dad told us it was called “Midway” and my sister and I automatically wanted to go down and check it out. Sadly, we had to go eat dinner first. I’m glad that we stopped for dinner because I still remember how delicious the food was. It was finally time to go see the falls. We walked down Midway and I still can’t believe how bright the street was. There were blinding neon lights on almost every building. I already knew I was going to have a great time with my family. We walked all the way down the street until we noticed a bunch of tourists. That’s when we realized we were near the falls. My sister and I were practically running to get to the falls.
We finally reached the brick sidewalk that leads you to the falls. That’s when I noticed the falls. I couldn’t believe how incredible the falls were. We were pretty far from the falls but we could see rainbows from all of the mist. I automatically knew that this was going to be the best vacation I’ve ever been on. I knew that not because of how amazing the city was, but because I was spending it with my family. To this day I still long to go back to Niagara Falls with my family. We started to walk down the sidewalk to get to the falls and see it up close. We finally had reached the falls and I couldn’t believe how large it actually was. It wasn’t as steep as I thought it was going to be but it was incredibly wide. There was so much water rushing over the falls I couldn’t believe it. We stayed there for a good 20 minutes until we decided to go back to the hotel and get some sleep. It wasn’t even our full day of vacation and I was already in heaven. I couldn’t wait until what we were going to do the next day.
We ended up doing almost everything you can do on the Canadian side of the falls in around 4 days. We went behind the falls, under the falls, went on the Maid of the Mist, and did a couple smaller things. It was one of the best four days of my life and I’m happy I spent it with my family. Hopefully I will be able to go there again soon. It was a very fun trip but I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much if I wasn’t with my family. I just hope next time we go we can stay for a longer time!
