Kissing a Lover
At the beginning, it’s awkward. Not knowing when to turn you head, when your eyes should close, and not knowing what your lover’s going to do. But, once your lips finally touch, sparks fly and everything comes together. It’s all very fast, but the tingle still remains on your flushed face. Then, as he looks at you, sparkles glimmering in his wonderous eyes, a silly smile sticks to his face. It all makes you want to do it over and over again. As he leans in to kiss you once more, he accidentally bumps his nose into yours. Laughter erupts from both of you as you stand, forehead to forehead. Now he is blushing and staring at you, tightening his arms. Again, he tilts his head and touches his lips to yours and those silly sparks fly around you once more. It’s that sudden rush of love that overpowers the both of you. That first kiss you share together will be the one you will always remember and cherish. With each kiss you share, the feeling grows and grows until your heart is full of love for this amazingly wonderful person. With every touch he gives you, even the lightest stroke of his fingers across your delicate cheek, it feels as though you two are the only ones left in the room, away from the ones that stare on with jealousy of what the two of you share. Months will pass and suddenly, a simple kiss is the only bit of affection you share. Bits and pieces of your relationship will chip away, only to be held together by those small tiny pecks. You’ll start to feel alone and the only thing you have is the feeling of fear that, maybe one day, you will lose each other and your world will come crashing down. It’s all in that first kiss. Make that feeling last, make that love continue on until the day your world ends. Love really only comes once, so make something out of it before it’s too late to try. But once you try too hard, it causes the both of you to feel like one or the other will leave. Tears stream down each of your faces as you look into each others eyes. He stands tall, hiding his emotions. He won’t look at you directly in the eyes, only because he is scared of what he may see. He loves you, but he doesn’t know how to express it to you. It’s all so new for the both of you, this true love. As he kisses you, you don’t feel him giving you the spark that used to be there. You’d give up everything to feel that spark again. Touch is rare now. And it’s only been a year. Neither of you can give up on one another, and there’s so much between you. Talk is minimal. Kisses are what’s keeping you connected. You’re confused, lost in a world where you can’t find a way out. Part of you wants to keep the love growing, but another part thinks it’s too late. After a year, you have that special ring on your finger, and as you look down at it, thousands of happy memories come flooding into your thoughts. You smile as he walks into the room, and as he looks at you, everything you feel intensifies. A smile breaks out on his face for the first time in what feels like a long time. He comes up to you, smiling at you as you stand. His arms curl around you, never wanting to let go. He leans down and says two simple words, “I’m sorry”, and you laugh, fighting back those horrid tears. You look at him, smile, and he leans in to kiss you. Everything falls into place and you feel complete once again.
