musings
It’s odd how well I remember that boy when I only saw him for a short time, five minutes at best. He was tall with hair that was a gorgeous white-blond and looked as soft as silk, his blue eyes were piercing and commanded your attention. The strangest part about this is that I remember the color of his eyes, that is the one thing that I constantly forget about people, even the friends that I have had since preschool, but his are impossible to forget.
I first saw him when I was on a school trip to Washington D.C. My class was taking a tour of Arlington National Cemetery and we had just seen the changing of the guard. We were standing and waiting for the bus when something caught my eye. I looked over at the steps to the amphitheater and that is when I first laid eyes on him.
He was dressed in a pair of jeans and a grey t-shirt with a white tiger on the front. On his feet he was wearing biker boots and his hands were covered in black and white fingerless leather gloves.
I was about to look away when I noticed something, the boy was speaking to his friends in sign language. The thoughts that ran through my head then were, Is he deaf, or is it one of his friends who is, if he is deaf why,was he born like that or did something happen to him and Who is he?
I don’t know if I will ever be able to get that boy out of my head or even why I can remember him so clearly. I suppose that some things will remain a mystery.
