The Misfortunate Adventure
“I can’t wait to finally get there!” exclaimed my sister gleefully, as we began our descent in our airplane down to the airport in Saint John, an island in the Caribbean.
My parents had been planning this trip for a while, and we had been waiting ever since we decided to go.
“Only a few more minutes!” I remarked.
We got off the plane into the sweltering heat of the day soon after the aircraft landed, and slowly made our way through the thick crowd of people to the luggage pick- up area. The bell sounded, and the suitcases started moving at a sluggish pace down the conveyer belts from the airplane, on their way back to their owners.
“Where is my suitcase?” I exclaimed when it did not return.
We waited impatiently for what seemed like hours, and finally concluded that my suitcase would not come. We informed the customer service agent that our suitcase was missing. After what seemed like a millennia, she found out where our suitcase had gone.
“Well, it looks as if your suitcase has been transported to Seattle instead of Saint John,” she spoke sheepishly.
“How long will it take for the airplane to fly it here?” my dad asked.
“I’m not exactly sure, but I assume it will be back within the next two days,” spoke the agent.
Two days was one third of our trip, and we had all of our snorkeling gear, and my clothes in that suitcase.
“Come pick it up near the ferry on Sunday,” yelled the agent as we left the building to find a long line of people waiting to obtain a rental car.
“We will have to pick up a bathing suit for you at the general store once we get a rental car,” my dad explained. The palm trees swayed in the warm breeze, as we walked to the car.
When we got to the main city, we saw streets packed with people, selling various items.
I could see why we had to rent a jeep as we drove up a steep, unpaved road to get to our house. As I looked out the window I could see many plants and animals I had never seen before.
“Time to go to bed,” my dad exclaimed when we arrived at our destination.
The next day we got up, and went to a beautiful beach, then a popular island cookery.
“That was some of the best food I have ever tasted!” I spoke. When we got back home, I drowsily climbed into bed, and instantly fell asleep. After a good night’s rest, we went into town to pick up my suitcase.
“Here comes the ferry!” exclaimed my dad.
We were both desperately waiting for the luggage to be brought off the boat.
“Yes!” I shouted, as my suitcase was the first to arrive, “this will be the best vacation ever.”
When it came time to go home, I wished this vacation would have lasted forever.
