My Stitches Story
My finger got a sudden shock of sharp pain. I glanced down at my hand to see it covered in red blood. I let out a terrifying scream and ran down the hall. “ Mom, mom!” I yelled as I reached her door.
She looked up in a panic and said , “ Are you o-?” She realized in the middle of her sentence my hand was bloody. She let out a gasp, grabbed a towel and rushed me to the car. We got in the car and headed straight for the ER. My mom dialed in the doctor's number and explained what happened quickly and in a panic.
We pulled up to the hospital and the nurses rushed out with a wheelchair. They set me down in it and wheeled me into a silent, chilly room. My hand was sticky and wet from the old and new blood. As they unwrapped the bloody towel, the pain increased and more tears ran down my hot face.
They started getting everything ready. Once they did the doctor laid me back and pulled out five needles. “These will numb your finger,” he explained. I tightened my body waiting for the pain of the sharp needles. One by one, he gave me the shots. Each one seemed to hurt more and more. Finally, after what seemed to be hours, he started giving me stitches. I watched as he zig zagged through my cut.
Four stitches later, he was done. He wrapped my finger and explained to me all the rules I needed to follow. As we got back into the car my mom said “ Well looks like you can't unload the dishwasher anymore. We don't want to have to take you to get more stitches.” We both cracked a little smile and headed home.
