There team captain celebrates as he scores an easy shot on our goalie, thats when I looked up to see the scoreboard. I saw the lights on the board spell out ‘ 4 to 6.’ Our whole team thought that game was over, but it wasnt. As Alec, our team’s starting center, set up to take another faceoff I gripped my lacrosse stick even tighter, waiting for the play to start. I inhaled the smell of freshly cut grass and thats when I heard the referee blow the ear piercing whistle. Before anyone won the faceoff I saw that the game time was ticking down to thirty seconds. I looked back to see that the opposing team was running down the other side of the field with the ball trying to wait out the time. Then I saw Ryan, the team's best defender slash the ball out of the rival’s stick as Alec swoops in and picks up the ball and lobs it down field. I beat my defender to the ball and juked him with the swim move, a move my coach taught me ten minutes before the game. Then instinctively I whipped the ball to Alec as he sprinted down field and somehow managed to get open in front of the net, he shot the ball into the top left corner just out of the reach of the goalie.

I checked the board again, still down by one with four seconds left. I looked back to midfield to see Alec taking an almost impossible shot. The ball sped towards us, but I saw that the shot was drifting away from the goal. I sprinted to where I thought the ball would be and naturally I caught, what seemed to be a missile, with my stick as outstretched as possible. I wound up and took a shot while running by the net. Then all I could hear was the sound of the scoreboard buzzing to mark the end of the game and then the cheers from my fellow teammates as the referee signaled the goal.

Coach called us into the huddle then he said,” We need to keep our offence strong and our defence stronger, the first goal wins the game.” He was interrupted by whistle signaling us to the field.

The starting lineup ran out on to the field. The faceoff was won by the opposing team but quickly was turned over when Alec slashed the ball out of his stick. As another teammate, Ray, scooped up the ball and ran towards the net. He took the ball to safety behind the net and waited for everyone to get in the correct position, because there was no worry about the time. After a few seconds of people trying to make a move on there defenders to get open, I decided to make an attempt. I told Ray to watch me. I beat my defender and ran to the front of the net and Ray timed a perfect pass to me. I caught it as I ran by the net and turned around and shot the ball. I felt nervous because the ball looked a little too wide but then it bounced off the post, making a loud bang, and then rolled into the back of the net. I felt amazing, I had just scored the game winning goal of our first game of the season. I looked over to my bench and the rest of the team had ran out and tackled me to the ground in excitement. My coach ran over to me and said,” Great shot!” I felt like I was meant to play Lacrosse from then on.
