Electrocuted
….”You were electrocuted”, my mother explained. At that moment my mind flooded with memories. Images flashed before my eyes, me walking to the fence and seeing my dog on the other side. Her body trembling and face filled with fear. I remember thinking how unusual she was acting but not giving it a second thought. Then I reached for it, the fence that changed my life forever. I clutched onto the fence, having the expectation of cold wire underneath my fingertips, but instead there was excruciating pain. It fried my hands as the electric current coursed through my fingertips and throughout the rest of my body. It was as if I my whole body was on fire. I tried and failed to move my legs and arms but they were locked in place. I assumed I screamed, however I have no mental recollection of doing the act but I was told later on by a neighbor that I screamed so loud that it sounded as if I was right outside her door, and we live about half a mile away from each other. Finally when the current had a last impulse and rushed out of my bleeding mouth, my body fell flat on the ground. The doctors told me I was probably unconscious for a a few minutes afterwards but I know I wasn’t. I remember standing up, even though the pain obstructed my vision, I still ran inside to go save my parents. Turns out if I hadn’t stopped my dad from touching, the current was so strong he would have died. I was just lucky because since I was so young, my body could rejuvenate itself but I still would have horrible vision and lasting effects on my heart and lungs.
