Goodmorning Sun
My alarm goes off at 6:30 in the morning. The question of the day races through my head, ”Should I get up or sleep in?” Eyes blurry, body heavy… I reach for my phone and hit the snooze. “Just a few more minutes,” I mutter to myself just loud enough for my mom to turn away from me as she attempts to shake me to wake me up. The alarm rings again. My phone reads “6:45 am.” I realize I should get up this time. Being a little less exhausted form the last interruption in my sleep; I roll out of my bed and throw on some jeans, a large sweater and Ugg boots. I grab my earphones and head out of my house for my morning walk. It’s a chilly morning in late November.
The air is crisp and the grass is still wet form the dew that it collected in the hours I was contently sleeping in my bed. I walk through the park and continue on the path towards the bay to find myself on the wooden pier. The sound of the small waves crashing on the shore and the worn out colors on the signs are two things that always stand out to me. I feel completely alone, at peace. I step over the chain that blocks off the rest of the pier ahead of me, shivers roll over my body as my sweater rides up and shows my midriff in my attempt to step over. I walk on and smile as the early morning breezes bring a rush of childhood memories to my head. My mind feels at home as I begin to watch the day get brighter. I look up from the view of my feet on that creaky old pier and I can see the sun’s hands grab on to the horizon line as she slowly begins to pull herself up to greet me.
I exit the pier and find myself sitting down in the sand with my feet where the tide will run up and nip at my toes like a small playful puppy. Putting my phone beside me I notice my familiar friend take a peak over the horizon, seeing me sitting there in peace. A few small clouds pass over her and she tells them secrets, I can hear. A breeze soon rushes over my body and I shiver yearning for the sun to greet my skin and keep me warm again. The sun, now three quarters above the horizon paints the entire sky a light shade of peace and the clouds purple. I stand there and grab my phone to document the moment. The screen on my phone displays the sight and the sun reflects over the morning waves for a split second as I capture the picture. It looks completely flawless and I am happy with one single photo. I gather my stuff, and return back to my house, smiling to myself, looking forward to the day full of sunshine that lays ahead.
