"Don't be afraid of the dark? What, are you kidding me? Of course be afraid of the dark! You know what's out there!"

I lived in Millarville Alberta. It’s a beautiful piece of land. My acreage was surrounded by tall fir trees and rolling hills. It was peaceful. But it felt empty and cold. Like something was missing. We were the only farm in all of Millarville that didn’t have a horse eating in the pasture. Not one. It had always been a dream of mine to own a chestnut thoroughbred with a white blaze down the middle of its velvety face. As I sat by my window and watched the rain fall, I thought about what it would be like to own something as beautiful and magnificent as a horse.
“Brooke!” Screamed my grandfather up the stairs. “It’s time for school!”
I quickly grabbed my backpack that was full of the usual school supplies. I grabbed my 2000 Malibu car keys and left without a second to bare. Today was going to be a good day. I thought to myself. I just had that feeling in my stomach that something amazing was going to happen. School went by terribly slow. Like always every minute felt like an hour and every hour felt like a day.
*Ring!!!!* Finally the bell. Before the teacher could say anything, I shot up out of my desk and left in a blink of an eye. Every day before I’d go home, I would stop at the local convenient store and buy a coffee. I cannot explain my obsession for the delicious brown drink. When I was leaving the store an ad caught my eye.
Chestnut Warmblood

For Sale

$3,000
(403)-797-6661
I could not believe my eyes! A chestnut Warmblood for sale! Sure it wasn’t a Thoroughbred but still! He even had a perfect white blaze. I stood in awe for a few minutes. Gazing over this wonderful creature that I have always been in love with. Without thinking twice I ripped the ad off the wall and drove home as fast as I could, excited to share my discovery. Before I was even in the door I was screaming for my grandfather.
“Papa! Papa!” I howled. “I have some amazing news!”
“What! What is it?” my grandfather asked with a concerned look on his face.
“I found an ad for a chestnut warmblood! Plus he’s super cheap as well!”
My grandfather reached for the ad and immediately started to scan the ad.
“This seems too good to be true.” I was ecstatic!
“Ahhhhhhh!” I shouted at the top of my lungs, “I love you so much!” I said while hugging the life out of my grandfather.
When we pulled up to the long winding driveway there stood a beautiful chestnut warmblood. He was tall and muscular.
“My god.” I thought to myself. “He’s absolutely amazing.” He had one white stocking on his front left leg and a white blaze running down his face. When we got out of the car a joyful man greeted us.
“Well, hello there young lady. “You here to buy this horse?”
“Why yes I am sir.” I said shyly.
“Well before we get a head o ourselves, does he ride well?” questioning my grandfather.
“Why don’t you see for yourself?” The man said smiling at me. I walked up to the horse and put my toes into the stirrup. Slowly I pulled myself up onto him I had a firm grip on the reins and slowly we started to walk. I felt like I was invincible. When I was on him I felt connected. That we were one. Before I knew it we were cantering around the corral. After a half hour, I got off him and looked at my grandfather.
“We’ll take him!” I said. We loaded him into the trailer and drove off.
“So what are you going to call him?” questioned my grandfather.
“I’m going to call him…..Maxamillion.”
