Someone to rember
“Here’s something to remember me by,” my best friend Shuni announced with a mournful smile on his angler face. Then he gave me a gorgeous aqua blue ring with silver markings surrounding the aqua colored stone in the center.
“Thanks but I will not forget you,” I whispered with tears spilling down my cheeks. We hugged until Shuni and his family had to go, leaving all of their friends and family to live a new life in Ohio. Shuni’s dad had gotten promoted and was being transferred to a new plant.
“Shuni! Come on we have to leave,” his dad shouted.
“Okay,” Shuni heavy-heartedly yelled back. He looked at me with his dark purple eyes. Then he turned and tripped on his long, black, shiny hair that goes down to his ankles. I had to snicker, it was just too funny not to. He looked back at me with a mortified smile, then climbed into their red van. I watched as it slowly faded into the distance and then disappeared from view.
Not only is Shuni my best friend; he’s the first friend I ever made. My grandparents and his parents were neighbors. They used to set up playdates for us when we were three months old. We have been best friends ever since I can remember. We hung out all the time. We also had free rein of the each other’s house’s. One of my many memories includes the time I was reading in a treehouse that we built. When I heard, gush, ping, pong, gush
“What on earth is that?” I thought looking out the window and spotted Shuni filling up five five-gallon buckets with water.
“Shuni what are you doing?”
“Filling up these buckets with water. Duh. What does it look like?”
“I know that. I mean why? Plus you do not have to be so mean. I was just asking.”
“Sorry. I am filling these buckets up for the water war, don’t tell me that you forgot about the water-balloon war? We have been planning it for months. It’s me and you against the others.”
“Of course I remember; only an idiot would forget. Can I help?”
“Yeah, you can fill up those water balloons.”
Two hours later all you could here in the woods by my house was war cries, laughter and screaming.
“Z! Look out!” Shuni shouted but it was too late; a water balloon hit me right in the face. The impact of the balloon stung; my cheek began to swell and turned bright red.
“Wow that was a strong one.” I thought, “Hmm. that water balloon was too strong to be thrown by someone. Wait a second! Is that what I think it is!?!” Unfortunately it was exactly what I thought it was---the Killer. The Killer is a slingshot and a powerful water gun combined that my friends made the summer before.
“Zadia are you ok?” Shuni asked running up to me dodging water balloons.
“Yeah I think so.”
“They’re using the Killer.”
“I know, but I think now is a good time to use our secret weapon.”
Shuni thought for a moment then answered,“Good idea. I’ll keep them distracted as long as I can”
“Hey” Husky yelled, “ what are the two of you whispering about over there?”
Shuni and I just smiled, then Shuni released a new barrage of water balloons. Then I quickly climbed up the tree that was next to me, and looked around.
“Come on where is it.” I thought desperately.”There it is!” The easy part was done, finding the secret weapon. The hard part was getting it without being spotted.I quickly jumped from tree branch to tree branch. Once I got to where the weapon was hidden Shuni gave me the signal. I jumped as hard as I could on the tree branch that I was standing on. Whoosh! All twenty-five gallons of water crashed down on my friends, making them fall down.Shuni who knew what was going to happen was holding the tree next to him laughing.
“What was that!” Naruto and Husky yelled.
“That was five, five-gallon buckets of water.” I answered laughing.
Hala, Naruto,Sasuke,Jasmine,Husky,Sam,Sho,Leaf, and Lin all stared at me and Shuni then they burst out laughing.“Okay you win.” Sam said.
Even though we are in different states, we still converse to each other every day for hours and hours. Whenever we see each other we talk non-stop after a whole ton of hugs. Sometimes we don’t have to talk because we know what the other is thinking just by looking in the others eyes. It’s really cool but also really annoying too.
My cousin Sam always asks the same three questions whenever Shuni is over, the first one is,“How do you do that? I mean how do you look at each other and know what the other is going to say?” The answer is always the same,“We just know each other each that well” The second question is ,“Why does Shuni always stand right behind you on your left side? I mean Seriously! When I say right I mean right behind you!” After he is done seething for about another five to ten minutes about how close Shuni stands by me Shuni’s answer is,“I don’t know, that is just where I stand. Besides I always stand right behind Z.
Last but not least the third question Sam always asks is,“Are the two of you dating?” Afterwards, and sometimes still blushing, we answer, well you can call it a yell, “NO!” The first time Sam asked if we were dating was when we were in fifth grade and Shuni had come up for the weekend. I had just finished a soccer game. The score was two for my team and five for the other. Shuni had just finished congratulating me with a hug for making the second goal. Then Sam came up to us and randomly asked if we were dating. When Sam said that I stared at Shuni and Shuni stared at me, then we both stared at Sam. We stared at one another in disbelief for two whole minutes then yelled “NO!”
Even though I do wonder sometimes what it would be like to date Shuni. Sometimes Shuni comes up to Michigan or I will go down to Ohio; either way we are inseparable.
